Some jackass stole my LTE camera that had been up for 2 months without issues.

I got a picture of their truck and them coming up to the camera to steal it... but no plate and no clear face. If anyone from the area recognizes the truck or the individual let me know.

Already have a police report in and have already contacted tactacam to report it as stolen.

Was located up the trail that's located at the gravel pit between marchand provincial Park and sandilands.

Hopefully someone recognizes him, can't stand theives.

I agree. It's one thing to steal out of necessity (you're poor and can't afford food)... which is still obviously wrong... but this guy is driving around in the woods with a crew cab f-150 that looks to be in pretty decent condition with some newer looking camo... why is he stealing an 150$ trail camera? From a fellow hunter to boot...

What an a hole. Drives a nice truck, can afford winter camo, and steals your camera. Any more pics? Can you post it on Manitoba Hunters forum?

I'm not a member of that forum.

The only other picture:

The time lapse between when the truck rolled in and he walked up to the camera is about 15 minutes. I'm guessing his 2 brain cells got quite the work out in that time trying to decide whether or not to commit a crime.

Looks like he has a rifle slung on his back too... before deer season started. Not that it's illegal but bear season is done... so what you hunting for bud? Who knows... maybe he's upland bird hunting with a .22..

Brutal. Hopefully tacticam can do something when they try to register the camera.

They said if they try to activate the camera they'll be able to forward the information to the local police. I don't know why someone would steal a trackable camera that transmits photos directly to someone's phone. You'd have to be an absolute r3tard.

I read a recent news article about a guy whose Macbook was stolen. He used apple's locate feature to determine it was in his nextdoor neighbour's house. He confronted the neighbour, and they denied they had it. He called the cops, and they said they could not do anything about it, because they couldn't trust the reliability of the locate app. Makes me worried you might run into the same sort of ballless wonders if you are able to locate it.

I believe the way they'd get caught is if they registered it to their name to try and use it. It would get flagged as stolen and tactacam would have all their info.

I always was wondering about legal aspect of using these cameras.

Is the owner of the camera really braking privacy laws? I mean you install a hidden camera taking pictures of people without their consent. Of course that was not a purpose, no odd intentions like someone install camera in public washroom, but people still might get in a picture of trail camera. Legally, you can install camera only on your own property and it should not even point onto your neighbor's property. Even then, in my Strata complex there were a few pages of bylaws added by lawyer regarding camera usage, including the signage clearly informing about active cameras. As a council, I cannot even browse for pictures unless I strongly believe there were crime activities happening.

Not defending that guy on F150, but he's got shot by hidden camera, no proven crime he's done, and now these photos posted on public forum. Does it break the law?

The other thing: someone's left the piece of the gear in a middle of nowhere. Be it camera or anything else. Does it belong to the owner anymore? I mean if while hiking you find a pair of old shoes hanging on the tree - can you take them? Can the owner of shoes report you to police once he finds it out?

Not trying to be smart guy, just wondering, because I'm thinking of using such cameras myself.

Does it belong to the owner anymore? Well, it's clearly not been abandoned. It was fastened to the tree by the owner, and remained fastened to the tree. Even if lost or stolen, property still belongs to the original owner. About the only argument you can make against the true owner is that the property has been abandoned, and there is no evidence to support that notion.

Additionally, on the privacy issue, there is no requirement of getting someones consent to take their photo in a public place in Canada. As long as the use of the photo is personal use, and not commercial.

I guess you will install another camera anyways. If the guy loves this spot - he will be back some time. So you can catch lic plates if that's your goal. But even if you would know it and the guy will show his ID in front of camera - police still will not bother.

I'm not installing another camera. I had it there for archery season and was going to retrieve it yesterday as rifle season starts today.

I have an offer in on a house with 116 acres ... so hopefully that goes through and I won't need to deal with scum like this on crown land anymore...

Why would you set up a camera where you can drive a truck to?

And leave it there for months on end?

An then be surprised when some doofus takes it?

Hope you get it back! :)

I'm not surprised it was stolen but im definitely pissed it was stolen... lots of people went by it... not many noticed it. There's generally not many people back there until rifle season for deer starts. Unfortunately I was a day late retrieving it.

Archery season is 2.5 months. That's why it was out there for "months on end".

The camera was placed there because there was lots of tracks there and the fact you can get a truck there is obviously pretty convenient for getting an animal out by yourself...

He may try to sell it for dirt cheap (used one season type of advertising) I come across trail cams all the time - sometimes I do the chicken dance in front of it - am tempted to bring a Santa Clause suit next time and walk by it a few times looking up in the sky.

I had a Quad stolen from my attached garage, I was pissed at myself for leaving the door unlocked.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda....you gotta put the blame where the blame belongs when something goes missing.

Low life scumbags are going to do what scumbags do, thinking (hoping) they won't is not going to stop them.

A lesson learnt from the school of hard knocks sucks :(

Drop a hundred dollar bill on a sidewalk, how long would it stay there ? Duh Never ceases to amaze me how people can leave things on public property and expect them to be there, weeks later.
