This rifle is a thing of beauty. I have always wanted one. Have you seen the new bastard child updated version? I want that one to.

I have a 12.3 BREN but I cant take it to the range because it is the preferred weapon of gang bangers. Cant believe the number of robberies and gang murders committed by guys armed with BRENS. I feel safer knowing that people such as myself cant take them to the range.

I can see why the US military decided it didn't want it for general issue (although it might have been better than the M16A1).
There are too many little parts - mostly pins - to lose. I'd bet that losing even one of those pins that Ian showed would render the gun unusable, and you could count on soldiers disassembling the gun and losing the pins. Don't forget that the US Army was drafting practically every swinging d!ck that wasn't in jail in those days, and some of them were, shall we say, not the sharpest knives in the drawer
If the pins were captive, then it would be more soldier-proof, but then the ease of changing configurations would likely suffer.
Still, an interesting and advanced design. I wonder how it would fare today if equipped with STANAG magazines?
