OK, I have my restricted PAL.......does that mean I can just buy a handgun? I own no restricted guns......so what do I have to do?

If I purchased one from a member, would the CFC do the transfer? New territory for me.

In BC you can and then get a authority to transit after the transfer is done!!

Here in Ont, you'll have to join a gun club first. Then buy a restricted, the seller calls the CFC to initiate the transfer, then gives you the reference number, then you call the CFC to "complete" it, it then gets sent to the CFO for approval. You wait to get the transfer notification and temp ATT, then the seller ships it to you (or you pick it up), and voila, you now own a handgun!

For me the whole process has taken on average 2 weeks from the time I send the money to the seller to the time the gun gets to my door.

You don't have to join a club. When the gunshop is registering the gun for you, they can say that you are buying it for target shooting at club XYZ, even if you are not a member there (i.e. you could be going with a friend or planning to become a member in the future).

That is correct. To buy a handgun you don't need to be a member of a gun club. When I bought my first gun I just said that I am looking for a club to join, and they approved the transfer right away.

Yup. In Ontario, the gun club applies for the ATT for you. If/when you go this route, ask for the maximum amount of time and places you can go for or else the gun club may short change you.
