Stoopid and vague time-wasting thread-titles ...

Hey guys,

It seems so obvious that I cannot believe that nobody else has whined about it.

I'm on dial-up, and I cannot believe how many minutes/hours I've wasted (out of simple curiosity) just to see what the hell somebody who posts "Help" or something else similarly-vague actually is requesting.

It's not like Title-Lines are on a fee-per-letter basis.

Anyone else out there feel the same way?

Boomer.

Ya, you would think that is the case! I've brought this up a few times when replying to threads. And this is hardly a "Black and Green Rifles" only problem. Maybe the admins should have a button to tag threads with bad titles! Give warnings just like they do for Exchange forum rule violations.

You realize you can hover your cursor over the thread and get a small preview of what's inside without having to actually click on the thread...right?
This still doesn't replace the bad titles. Often the first line in the thread is "This is my first post..." or "This is a dumb question but..." or "http://photobucket.com/abc123/guns/m14pic.pic" etc. Totally doesn't help and you do a "should I open it?" in your head.

Mousing over thread titles in the main CGN index is even worse as instead of the first line of the thread you get "Go to first unread post in thread 'Help'.

What's the downside to a good title instead of "Help" or "What did I do wrong?"

Hello man from 1995. Can I come to your house just to hear the modem connecting sound?

Can you also please go tell myself in 1995 not to spend all my money??

Yes, but I'm f*cking anal about everything and I always expect too much of people, so you're not in good company.

:D

High-speed not an option in boonies

Damn, that's a clear and explicit title, eh?

I truly do live in The Boondocks ... a gorgeous wilderness mountain valley without even radio reception ... thank goodness for StarChoice and Sirius satellite radio ... so dial-up is the order-of-the-day. A third dish (for wildly-expensive high-speed wireless Internet) would make this place look like an NSA listening post.

Or maybe the problem is not technology-related at all ... just my own impatience ... :)

Totally amazing how it is your fault for having a slow connection AND/OR not wanting to click on every thread. They sound like Lieberals... just like it is my fault as a legal gun owner in BC for the gang shootings using smuggled illegal guns in Toronto.

No one has explained the downsides to having a good descriptive title yet either. Why spend 5 minutes or more posting a new thread and title it "Help" and not get people to read it?

I'm not on dial up but I still find it annoying. Especially in the articles section when they don't post the article.

Not only is it a pain to get to the article, but if you want to go back to it in the future, most news sights want you to pay for it after a couple weeks.
