stovepiping with ARMS mount

My M305 stovepipes on occasion with the ARMS 18 mount. I have read that a new ejector spring and/or ejector will cure this problem. My newie question is, is the ejector spring and ejector from a M1 Garand interchangeable with the M14-M305? If not, does anyone know where I can get the correct parts? Thanks
 
I read somewhere you can just trim the extractor spring to the length of the USGI spring and your ejection won't be so high, hitting the mount.

I could be wrong. Has anyone done this with success?

You can trim the extractor spring, but go a coil at a time and ensure you have a spare.This has worked for several members.

This is one problem With the ARMS #18 mount.It sits low to the reciever/action opening and this can cause problems with cases hitting the outside lower edge of the mount.

I never had this problem wiht my ARMS #18, but I decided to switch to a Smith mount anyways as I liked the longer top rail.

However the person I sold my ARMS mount to had the same problems you are having on his S.A. M1A.He ended up buying my KAC M14 RAS to solve the problem.

These days if people ask me to reccomend a M14 Mount, I tell them to buy the Smith Enterprises mount.

The other thing is to change the ammunition you are shooting. I have problems with my ARMS 18 when I shoot normal surplus 150 grain ball ammunition however when I switch to match at a lower velocity the problem goes away totally. Steve

GG&FB usually has a few Smith mounts, but they have been hard to get due to Smith Enterprise"s Military contact for rebuilding M14s into DMRs for the conflict in the "sandbox".
