Found some old AR ads in a dresser drawer. Remember these guys?
I think it was run out of a hole in the wall near Commercial Drive.
Middle to late 90's?
Haven't seen many "Intercontinentals" around. Maybe because they were non-res back in the day then went to Mike in Canmore?

Ahhh, back when people would advertise or spam by fax. Return to the office and the roll of fax paper was entirely spit out onto the floor filled with information about things you’d not possibly want and the legitimate business faxes got missed as a result. Those weren’t the days.

Different looking AR though.

Brings back memories ....I was living in MI when I bought my first AR , a Colt H-Bar Sporter. When I was heading back in 1995 , my H-Bar was a collectors item since after the 1994 AW Ban you couldn't have a bayonet lug, threaded barrel and flash hider.

All my friends pestered me to sell it to them

Ended up selling it for more than 2X what I paid after shooting the crap out of it for 4 years.

I used to work with the guy who owned SSAC. Jim? Tom? Can't remember. That business was his sideline. He was an interesting character. Carried one of those old Motorola bag phones well into the 2000s until the networks no longer supported them.

Jim - (James Kish) they had a great selection of "exotic" firearms - Galils, Uzis, Steyr AUGs. Tons of fun stuff. VPD had a real hate on for them, RCMP too.

What was the quality of those Olympic Arms rifles. Were parts interchangeable with Colts?

They were the only option other than Colt back then .
Parts were interchangeable with colt (at the time Colt had the large pin upper & the SGW's were milspec M16 small pin upper)
Quality varied . I've had several over the years (still have 2) & they all worked like they should .

That's right! James Kish. I wonder if he is still around. His "day job" was in the film industry. Pretty nice guy. Always kind of smiling. And forever on that bag phone!

That storefront is a bakery now. A pretty good one, actually.

I remember him wearing a lot of jewelry. I also remember trying out the an/pvs-7b gen II or III night vision goggles when they first got them in. I still have that ad too but didn't post it. The III Gen had a list price of $12,045. For early 90's, that's a lot of dough!
I bought my first AR15 from those guys. Colt Commando, used. Came with 5 30rd mags and a couple hundred rounds of ammo. Restricted due to barrel length I think. I only paid $800 for it if memory served.

Still kicking myself for not buying the HK 93 they had there at the time. Even though it would have been a safe queen now, I would have still got one.

The woman that took over after Kish was pretty cool too. She was a ###ual assault survivor and showed up at a lot of anti bill c68 rally's back in the day. There was a story on her in the paper back then detailing her experience and how it shaped her worldview on firearms ownership and self defence. Can't remember her name now... I think was Michelle...

Oh man, me too. Loved the 91/93. Beautiful lines on those guns. My buddy's dad had a 91 (and some other cool stuff, mostly revolvers) back when we were in high school. We used to take whatever he would let us and go shoot it in the back 40.

I regret never going in Jim's shop. Sounds cool. I drove past it a million times and it seemed be closed more often than not.

Yes, it was Michelle - neat lady. That store had all sorts of gear - bug sweepers, night vision, the first reasonable sized thermal I ever saw (up until then, I'd only seen the vehicle mount units and the big OP sets) and guns - awesome guns. All the stuff a starving university student really shouldn't be exposed to.

I have an Olympic arms receiver set with the milled weaver rail like the one in the photo, had the same handguard as well but that went into the trash when i took the gun apart,

The golden days. Epic gun shops with larger than life characters selling amazing items. Not like today's tactilords. Back in the day the BS stories 'could' have been true.
