Strange issue with T97

I am having a strange issue with my T97. Two problems actually.

The first problem is that it rarely chambers a round anymore. It feeds it cooked and destroys the round (pushes the bullet into the casing), and never chambers it.

My second problem is, by some fluke it manages to chamber the round, the bolt never pushes the round all the way in. I try to manually push it in myself and the round gets stuck, as if the round is too big for the chamber.

So as of now, my T97 is completely unusable. I have tried new mags thinking it was a mag issue, but it happens with all of them.

I've had it for a year now, and it only started last week. I've put hundreds of rounds through it without issue up until now.

I am contemplating taking it to a gunsmith to have a look, but if anyone here has had similar experiences, please let me know.

Thanks.

What type of magazines are you using? I've found beowulf mags generally require a shim at the back of the magazine to push the front end up. Also, do a full strip and check around for caked in dirt, grime, powder.. the magazine latch may not be locking the magazine completely into place. Give your chamber a good cleaning too.. it sounds like it's just dirty. Your chamber doesn't "shrink".. they just get mudded up with carbon.

Do you know anyone that can lend you some different mags? try that first.

The mag it came with, some PMAGs, and some AR mags my friend lent me, as well as some LAR15 mags. Same thing happens with all of them.

Dump it, and buy a proper rifle.

It is a "proper rifle". I've purchased a Tavor recently too. Love both.

I've only had a bullet slammed into a case a couple times when the mags were really loose.

I can't imagine what issue could develop with a gun that was previously working to cause this.

Good luck in tracking down the issue

It strangely also happened to a PMAG that wasn't yet filed down (it was REALLY tight and didn't move) as well. Hopefully it's still under manufacture warranty. If not, I'll take it to a gunsmith.

Are you using reloads? I had a few pushed in bullets so I filed a small channel in the shelf in front of the chamber and now it seems to feed better. I also have failures to fully go into battery with the norinco T97 and my benelli MR1 which required to smack the handle forward or just eject the round. I figured it out that I was trimming the brass and wasn't totally camferring the case mouth leaving a little burr. I just got a RCBS case trimmer before I was using those Lee hand gauge trimmers.

I hated my my t97!!!!! It did the same thing you mentioned about pushing the bullet into the case. I modded the feed ramp and only used lar mags and it got rid of 90% of it. It also like to randomly double tap stuff at what had to of been 1500 rounds a min cyclic rate, do it so fast you almost did not notice it just let 2 off. Look into putting a bit of a ramp into the feed lip with a round file, there is a thread around on how to do it.

I bought a Tavor and life has been great since.

I can't imagine the feed ramp is the issue of it wasn't doing it the whole time....

Mine runs 100% with all mags except a loose c products .50beo mag

Likes IMI / PCV .50 beo mags, lar mags, and any random 5/30's I have

I've never used a pmag, heard the gen 3 didn't fit in em.

The reason it's jamming the bullet into the case is because it's hitting something as the bullet is being fed into the chamber. If it does it enough times you will see where the round is hanging up by the spot of copper and brass where it has been hitting. Mine was the feed lip-ramp. Also mine hated loose fitting mags. Hope you get it sorted out!

This issue is 95% caused by the magazines. Any loose fitting mag I had, even after modifying the feed ramps still jammed up, and the problem was solved after some mag experimentation, so far, IMI, LAR, and Gen *2* Pmags have been the best. Once you find a proper solution the problem just disappears.
