Strength of an antique Remington Rolling block

As to the Remington Rolling strength, did anyone else read that story about that teen in Norway a few years ago who was killed when his Granddad's old RB let go? I think the cause may have been different ammo or overloaded ammo (can't remember which)

Beater rifle, unknown ammo, likely rammed WAY to energetic load into the chamber.

Not really a case of poor metalurgy as much as really poor judgement on the part of the shooter. Like no judgement at all.

The 1902 that was damaged in the opening photos is the strongest of the Remington actions, my experience is with older actions and I currently use an old model 1 1/2 and use strictly black powder in it. The Rolling Block action is one of the most dangerous if it "lets go", so i don't push it with any smokeless loads. One of the more common alterations to these old actions is to bush the firing pin to a smaller one, something not done on mine. Please note that the above info is for orig. Remingtons only and not any of the Euro copies.

You should try 66 grns of 2F and you get a real nice Cr ack and accuracy didnt change ,but oh man what a mess I hate doing this to my rifles but it is worth it just to create the smoke.Graham
