So decided to do a detailed strip of my Jungle Carbine today. Was fun, also great having to rush out and buy a longer screw driver. But I did notice one thing, the two screws that that hold the butt plate on did won't come out. So after some fuss I finally got them out, and upon further examination noted that the wholes that they screw into are stripped. It's pretty much like a hotdog being thrown down a hallway type thing. Now, without getting a new stock, is there anyway I can go about fixing this?

USE BIGGER SCREWS. Have you seen the size of the butt plate screws on the Lee Enfield with a regular butt plate??? Right, if it's original, it has the hockey puck on it instead....almost forgot that!

Pack some steel wool down into the holes. This works as a quick fix. Putting some tooth picks in the holes for the screws to bite on will also quick fix it. A proper fix would entail drilling the holes out, glueing in dowels, and re-drilling the holes once the glue dries.....

Snug dowels and carpenters glue. Cut the dowels to length, sharpen the front similar to the profile of the original screws, lightly coat with glue, and tap them in gently with a hammer. Let the glue cure 48 hours, trim off the excess with a one-sided saw, line up the butt-plate, mark the location of the screw holes in the butt-plate, drill pilot holes the size of the screw shank (measure between the threads) and then carefully drive the screws in.

Carefully bore them out oversize.to say 3/8 inch ,even maybe 1/2 inch.Glue in dowels with urethane glue, when set drill the screw holes to shank clearance. Put the but plate back on ,and Bobs your uncle. Duker

I don't know much about LE's.

But if the screws just hold the butt pad (and it's only wood). Get some carpenters glue and mix it with saw dust to make it about 1/3 sawdust to 2/3 glue. Mix it well and pack it into the hole--toothpicks work well to pack. Allow it to dry and drill pilot holes into it. It should be strong enough.

I've used this technique to rehang doors.

The easier fix is wooden match sticks and carpenters glue, stuff two or three match sticks in the hole with soaked in glue, cut them flush and screw the screws in while the glue is still wet. That is a suprisingly strong fix!

As Tiriaq says, the Jungle Carbine doesn't use two wood screws. It uses a long hollow screw threaded internally, with a smaller threaded short shanked screw which fits in from the other side. The two screws thread into each other, and not the wood.

Well, unfortunately, I obviously don't have the original equipment. Anybody know where I can get that fancy dancy screw thing-a-majig? Any stores carry them, or would the EE, like always, be the best place to look?
