I am having a hard time getting the stripper clip guide off. The pin comes out easy but I can't get the guide off. I tried wacking it lightly from either side. I am getting conflicting information on which side the guide comes out on. I have read information on this site that says left to right but here http://www.surplusrifle.com/reviews/masenm1ascopemount/index.asp it says right to left. Do I hit it from the left side of the receiver (with the muzzle pointed away from me) or the right. Thanks

Do as instructed on surplusrifle.com. I used a large brass punch to knock it out when I added my ARMS18 mount. You might want to squirt some oil in there to get it going. Just make sure you secure the rifle properly.

John Masen instructions state: "Drive clip guide off from right to left." With no reference as to what right to left means.

PROMAG instructions state: "Drive the guide out to the right. The same direction as the charging handle and ejected cases."

Don't recollect what the Springfield instructions stated, I sold the mount before I tried using it. USAGI308 could tell you.

I have gone both ways now, once for the JM and once for the PROMAG.

Not sure it really matters.

Kuhnhausen says to "remove". My suspicion is that it therefore matters not from which side you remove it. PS the roll pin punch is a #3

I got the roll pin out pretty easy. But the damm stripper clip guide won't move. I don't have a brass punch so I was using a wooden dowel. I may not be hitting it hard enough either but I don' want to damge it.

I had another go at it today. I bought some brass punches and I still could not get it to budge. Maybe I need to use a bigger hammer but I m a little afraid to cause damage to the receiver.

I have had some issues removing pieces from a rifle or two (namely the gas tube pin on the SKS), and in those cases I bring it to a G'Smith. I tend to get mad and damage things by hitting them too hard, so now I just relax and bring it to the G'Smith. In both cases, I didn't even get charged because it took him a millisecond to do.

It would seem pretty unusual of a design to both make it a dovetail and a taper fit so that it goes in and out only one way. Mine appears to be simply an interference fit that could be driven in or out equally easily or difficult from either direction. When I installed the Smith scope mount, the sliding piece showed no indication that the dovetail was tapered, as I slid it to centre it. I'd suggest using some penetrating oil, a brass drift, a big hammer and backing up the receiver onto something non marring, like a block of wood.

Its definatly a ##### to come out but you need to hit it right to left and it will come out. If you hit it left to right it only tightens up. I hope this helps. I made the same mistake my first time. If you need any help whatsoever I'm in the GTA so I can drive if necessary to help you out. Might save a couple of hours of work. I have the original M14 clicic on DVD I've been the one distributing it. It's no charge of course(thanks hungry), just PM me and I'll send it to you or I'll swing by and help you out personally. Like I said it was a ##### for me as well.
