No offense but Co-Witnessing with the M14 iron sight set-up is a little too much. What type of sight picture will be left over to have the target visible??? The whole point of the re-flex, red dot/holo sight is for a fast targeting of 1's target with a greater field of view. So by doing this totally negates the advantage that one just got buy using such a device. Also the fast fire series has just about the same height as an bushnell trs-25, aimpoint micro or a vortex sparc.
Do you mean the M14 ghost ring is to wide, obstructing most of the FOV? Yes but you can dial it down, don't need to use it all the time. You just raise your sight when you run out of battery or want to use the iron BDC (long shot). 2 options are better than one. If you mount the FastFire, it will take a coin/tool and 30sec to go back to iron sights, losing RD zero in the process. Reinstalling the FastFire, you can't confirm zero with the iron sights.
Regarding height, my mini-14 with old sights (folding rear and non-winged front) has a Ultimak rail. I can cowitness an Aimpoint micro but not a FastFire with the picatinny protector mount.

I don't quite understand why you'd want to use a reddot on a rifle equipped with the best Iron sights ever invented. And apertures are almost as fast to use as a reflex anyway.
I mean a scope will get you more range and pinpoint accuracy, but the M14 will shoot into a smaller group at 100yds with irons than the reddot will cover with it's dot..

RDS are way faster than irons, and a 1moa would give you way better "pin point accuracy'' than the stock norc front sight...
True but I did thin my front sight out and put a thin white line in the center.
But aren't most red dots abot 4-5moa? that's pretty wide for "pin-point".
They may be a bit faster but an aperture sight like the M14s is quickly centered and very instinctive.
INMHO I don't think it's worth the trade of relying on something that's electronic and sacrificing the ability to use your iron sights.
If you need low light capability, a well mounted flashlight let's you use your'e irons easily even when it's dark.
p.s Mind you I do have perfect vision so for others this may not apply
