Did the grunts that carried these rifles use them? Or did they just stoke up the mags and swap them out as required?

Can a guy still get stripper clips?

I sometimes used them with an old K98 I had years ago - you stuffed the mag, and then slammed the bolt forward and the stripper clip popped out. The guys told me the soldier didn't even worry about the stripper, they basically threw them away once the ammo was in the gun. I picked mine up and re-used them until they fell apart.

Any of you guys use stripper clips? What do you think of them? It might be fun to play with them again.

We still use stripper clips to day, but they are used the load your mags. On the M14 the stripper clip guide was used to aid in loading your mags and used if all your mags were empty and you had to load rounds fast in combat.

Topping up magazines and as noted above. Essentially a bit of a hangover from days gone by. I suspect that after an initial playing with you, like most of us, will forgo the idea of stripper clips and simply remove and re-charge a magazine when empty or, instead, simply insert a nice new 20 round magazine - thoughtfully neutered to five of course due to public safety concerns :)

I personally would rather use stripper clips than trying to do a mag change on one of those tiny 5 rounders. I have a CASM on my gun now and got rid of my 5 round mags though so it's a non-issue now though.

I use the stripper clips.

In this country with our idiotic laws, it's a pain to shoot 5 rounds, take off the mag, load it back up, put it back on.

It's very easy to just drop a 5 round clip into the holder push down and then pull the clip out.

Of course I only have one magazine for my M14 though lol :D

To the OP, you can find them but they are priced a little high in my opinion, they go about $1 a clip believe it or not!

I picked up some .308 strippers from Westrifle a while back, easier to carry as another already suggested. When it comes to other rifles like an SKS, I can load and shoot many times faster with stripper clips than I can by changing the mags. I have no idea why anyone would want removable mags for SKS, just not practical for money spent nor operation.

I use them in all of my bolt action Milsurps. Most of them work fine, although the .303 strippers can be finicky at times.

One fellow who is a regular vendor at our local Gun Shows has a decent supply of original U.S. 10rd stripper clips for the M-14 and the charger guide.

Stripper clips are an amazing tool, used to fast charge your mag, If your rifle can use it, get use to it and it will grow on you. The idea of a mag change is great only if you have full mags... oh, back then we charged our C7 mags with 10 rd stripper clips... x 3 when we were out. Makes it hard to keep on the go when your out for a reload.

I bought a 20 pack of 10 round stripper clips when I bought my first M305 and can of ammo. When I open a spam can, I load up 200 round on the clips, 300 in plastic cartridge boxes, and the last 40 in 8 mags. I usually do the initial loading at the range from boxed ammo, and reload from stripper clips. I find it's faster to charge the mags in the gun from the stripper clips. 5 rounders would probably work better than the 10's I have.

Loading with stripper clips on a m14 type rifle(M305, M1a) is faster than a mag change, when using five round stripper clips. I don't have a scope on either of my Norcs and when I take one of them out coyote hunting, to the range, etc. I take 2 mags and a couple or 3 bandoliers. The spare mag is there only as a back up and I almost always stripper clips load.

My experience with the ten round strippers is that the can be a pain. I frequently use a spoon(stripper clip guide that attaches to the mag) to load also. Stripper clips, IMO, are a good investment, Got some for my AR mags too.

I find stripper clips to be very useful, and back in the day they worked just fine to quickly load an C1A1 mag at the range. It kinda kills me nowadays to see them being sold for a buck or more at gun shows...we used to just trash them without a thought.

I prefer to use them, but I admit my mag changes could be smoother, and so I really should practice those more...

Also, some my my clips require quite the stiff push to strip rounds from; a helluva lot of friction! On these especially I've gashed a few thumbs. SO I guess I could run a case up and down it a few times, or bust out the 400grit...

(Two cents rounded down isn't much)

(Oh yes, x2 on 'I wish we didn't have to reload after five shots ffs)

I was handling one of the CanadaAmmo socom's recently and it was difficult to release the mag.....what I found worked well was to push the mag forward away from the release before pushing the release.

Yep. Ammo came in bandoleers on 'em. Stripper clips are far less expensive to make than a magazine and were Class 'C' stores. That means they weren't expected to be returned.
Changing mags quickly requires practice. So does loading a mag with a stripper clip. .303 charger clips must be loaded correctly or they'll jam. 7.62/.308 clips do not.
Any .308/7.62NATO based cartridge fits nicely on 'em. Handy way of carrying 5 rounds of .243, .270, et al in a pocket while hunting. In case you get into a firefight with a ground hog. Good way of keeping different loads separate when working up a load too. They're easy enough to find now, but very likely won't be in the nearish future. 7.62NATO is used only in MG's these days. Not issued anymore.

Stripper clips are awesome. I like the fact that you have two very cool ways of feeding your gun. When I did my first service condition match, I did not have mags but just stripper clips. Guys could not believe how quick it was for me to load my mag. This is one of the reasons I went with a scout mounted scope for my m14.
