I picked up a savage axis 30-06 from a guy at a gun show for 50$. Everything looks good inside and goes bang but I guess the previous owner had a thing for biege spray paint because he covered the whole thing!

I have a new stock for it and got the paint stripped from the bolt, and mag with paint thinner and elbow grease but the barrel and reciever are proving stubborn. Any ideas to help get the paint off without damage?

While we are on this topic I have an Arisaka M38 that someone painted blue areas with a some sort of lacquer or clear plastic coating finish. Obviously I don't want to damage the bluing underneath. I know oven cleaner works well with shellac but I don't think this is shellac.

Any recommendations from previous attempts gents?

Acetone will certainly work. I'm just not sure if it'll affect the matt black under the beige. Only one way to find out though.....

I bought a Rem 870 Express a few years ago on the EE from a guy who had made it his turkey gun. Krylon camo (several coats of different colours plus a couple layers of clear) on all the metal. Everything came off and no damage what so ever on the matte blue finish.
