Strongest AR-15 stock: Magpul UBR vs ACE M4

The lock sucks.
The foam peels off quickly, gets soaked with sweat, and gets dust in it making it like sandpaper on your face in the few days before it peels off.
The sling attachment position is beyond dumb, and they have no QD stud position anywhere.

X2

I agree, you just have to look at what people are using on their AR's to get a feel for what works and what doesn't.....

Thanks! I agree with the wet foam and sling points but how does the lock suck. Mine is rough to use(needs a heavy hand) but is it fragile?

Note my earlier picture showing stripped notches / grooves on the locking mechanism on the tube.

I took a look at the pic you mentioned and am wondering if it is an older design(or maybe newer... mine is couple yrs old now). The one I have has no notches like that... that I'm aware of. The front locks in with a friction clamp instead of a castle nut so not that end and the sliding mechanism have full width notches similiar to the pic posted by Kevin.

For me its the difference between a battle rifle stock and a target stock, and both have their place. My M4 can and does breech doors, it has sat too close to a fire and not melted(didn't do the foam any favours though:p). I know it won't shatter if it gets dropped on concrete in -50C. It has taken linear and more importantly transverse shock loads with no ill effects. I can't say that for my Vltor Clubfoot or the milspec buffer tube it used which is what the current M4 hade to replace. The M4, in my opinion, doesn't have the cheek weld for target/precision shooting but that is not what it is designed for.

I've heard good things about the UBR too, but have also heard it can be heavy, especially for an entry configuration. Many are still preferring the CTR for that reason.

Wow, am I ever glad that we just brought in a few of these to sell. :runaway:

I love mine. Hasn't failed me yet. Haven't seen any wear that's been posted here. There has been only one match that actually allowed use of slings that i've been to. All others will not allow sling use.

Mind you i only use mine for recreational purposes only. If you actually use it for work, perhaps other options are better.

OR,
if you don't cross dress in Kevlar and undress regularly,
OR share your AR with a squad of different sized folks,
ask yourself if you REALLY need an adjustable telescoping stock.

If you could go with a fixed length stock,
you might want to consider the YHM tubular stock,
WHICH ADDS ANOTHER COMPLETE REINFORCING TUBE OUTSIDE THE BUFFER TUBE.

As usual,
the opinions expressed on the internet that you get for free,
may be worth much less than you paid for them,

The mil-spec (hahah) extension tube is made out of a forging. if you can bend the tube, I think you should not be tossing your rife off the deck of a ship........if you hit it hard enough, the lower recevier might just break off. Either way, you are screwed.
