Whats the best way to remove a stuck screw? Gunsmith that mounted and boresited the scope must've put too much locktite. :HR:

Also if a (another) smith would do it how much should that cost?

Small torch on the screw head, about as hot a soft soldering should release the grip... Really careful if this is on a ring and the scope is in it...

Scope is removed, this is a base screw. Gun isn't mine anymore and new owner is a little apprehensive to apply heat as he thinks it might damage the finish of the gun.

How much would a gunsmith charge for it?

You can heat it with a small propane torch until water boils away when dropped on it and let it sit a bit... it's like a frying pan hot enough that water drops bounce and sizzle and disappear...

It also should not be that much for a smith to do it... unless you screw the head up and it has to be drilled...

Sometimes we use a larger torx head that fits into the striped hole.Hammer it in there nice and tight.Apply heat like others have said.Apply heavy downward pressure(takes 2 people) and slowly turn. Sometimes vice grips on the screwdriver helps for turning when buddy is putting all his downward weight on it.
Hope you get it outta there!

I had this same situation happen to me when I sold a rifle. The loctite held well, and thte hex screw head stripped. I had to have a smith drill out the screw. It cost me about $40 and a little time. No I don't use any screws that are a torx. The hex head screws are all going in the garbage

This has worked for me in the past:

If you can get a punch into or onto the screw and give it a couple good raps with a hammer , it will help break the bond, or take a 1/4" screw driver bit of the screw size, put it in hole give a couple shots.

I have stripped torq head screws and pounded a robertson or hex into the hole and turned them out easily after the hammering.

I wouldn't go to the smith just yet.
