Stuck case removal for Dummies

Kerosene? I use it every winter in heaters in the garage. I buy jugs of it at Crappy Tire for $26. But you can get it most anywhere. Have you left your house in the last 20 years?lol

Yeah, out west never have to think about that. I use electric air to air heat pump and natural gas, and my garage is attached to my home.

I've a co-worker who likes to get the most out of Magnums. He's had cases separate in the chamber. Offered a case removal tool to him..."No thanks"
"Just leave it outside, leaned against a wall( in the winter...duh) with bolt open. Brasses dis-similar cooling curve from steel...sometimes it'll just fall out"

So if I leave my .223 die with a stuck case out in the cold, should it be easy to get it out? Like maybe just pulling on case with vise grips?

Must be a old timer trick.. I can't say that I've ever seen kerosene in my lifetime? Actually that is a lie, I remember seeing some when I was 5.. so 20 years ago. I haven't seen any outside of a store in the 90's.

Well, I grew up in a house where kerosene lamps provided the light.
However, in about 1970 I purchased a Browning Medalist 22 pistol, their top of the line target pistol. In the instruction pamphlet that came with it was the following statement, here paraphrased.
"Take the slide out periodically and clean the gun with a good solvent, such as kerosene."
So don't sell kerosene short, it is a good penetrating oil, probably as good as many of the high priced little tins of it and kerosene is still sold in the paint department of stores.

One of the major components or WD 40 is kerosene so it must be good for something. We used to have to carry a big easy out and a cleaning rod to remove the head separations for the 7mm mag loads a guy we hunted with used. Turned out he never threw a case away until it separated and he had many with a really bright ring around the case he hunted with. And he always missed the first shot when they happened.

couldn't you remove the decapper and punch it out? Did I miss that part?

Well, if you will tell us how to get the neck expander out through the neck, when the neck is sized down in the die, we will try your plan!

some styles of die's you can some time's get the expander out by using the expander rod and a spacer with the proper size nut same way as you do the shell case. that is sometimes! Hornady you cannot as you can not find a nut with right threads. Ask me how I know LOL.

Anyone got a trick for getting the body of a 458 wm case out. ? The head separated a couple mm above the belt. Just a hollow brass tube stuck in a full length lee die

I haven't done it, but I might try the above and put it in the freezer and see if it falls out. Maybe also the appropriate size pipe thread plug with a hole drilled through the top 90* to the plug and a screwdriver (not an expensive one) through it and follow the same procedure as above. Someone who has done it will certainly post something better though.

The old trick for getting separated cases out of chambers was to use an oversize cleaning bore brush... push it through part way, then pull it back so the bristles are pointing back at you. I know it's not quite the same thing, the die being much tighter than the chamber, but it might be worth a shot.

Well I was thinking about hammering in a wooden dowel then punching it out. Similar system. I was 2/3 the way thru a bottle of black label and decided it's best not to use a hammer. I've tried the freezing. It failed
