stuck casing

oooouch !!!!

with several miss fire and they still tried to fire it . i would be like emmab and take it home.
 
Holy smokes....neverseen that before......he's lucky to still have a right hand intact! The next time I'm at the range [with my sks's] and the guy in the next stall shooting an AR/M16 variant has a miss fire.I think I'll move a few stalls down.....out of the blast radius:D
 
Yeah that's for sure! Like I said in the earlier post, a round went off and the mag area and trigger group filled up with smoke. I'm not sure if this was the culprit that seperated but it was something different. So with that happening and rounds getting stuck, it was time to pack it in for the day. No use forcing the issue and at least the gun didn't blow up!
 
So the final score was.... 3/8thTap 1, Case extractor 0. The Tap was the only way to get this chunk of steel out of the chamber(plus Satains expert skill and his travelling gun repair van). We soaked the case with lacquer thinners then heated the works with a Hot air gun, and finally after some nasty language we got it out!! Cause for much Joy and celebration ensued. Way more fun than a gunsmith! Cheers and a big Thanks to Satain

That's a good one. LOL.... Yeah the casing was quite something. So I guess a 3/8" Tap will be the next purchase to put in the gun repair drawer, or a couple 24 packs of beer and just keep calling Satain
 
hmmm.... so, quick question (ya good luck...)

To help this not happen again, would polishing the chamber be a good idea?

Something like a flexible shaft in a drill, some sort of compound (Brasso, rouge,...?) and a couple of beer (or a dozen) to fend off the boredom...?

Or maybe some of the cases are simply ####e... interesting to read about; thanks for posting!!
 
This doesn't happen often, but it does happen. In the past I have done something similar. Heat up the chamber with a heat gun. Once it is VERY hot, hit the steel case with a couple of shots of "Quick Start" (ether). It will cool the case faster than the chamber and has always broken it free for me. Then the broken case extractor or the tap will easily pull it out.

Oh yeah, remember to brush the chamber good. I used a .45 bore brush.

Heres a quote from Satain to keep the chamber clean."Polish the chamber with JB Bore Bright after scrubing it with laquer thinner and a brass chamber brush".
We used the end of a 3 piece cleaning rod and chucked it up in a drill with a .45 cal brush dunked in the paste and went at it. I'm glad to see all the responses on this topic and I'm sure most of us will be trying these ideas sooner or later. Cheers


Getting that case out was like a long awaited bowel movement...never too soon!
 
Good thread. My rifle extracted 1/2 steel case, other 1/2 stuck in chamber. I did the heat gun, starter fluid, then 3/8 fine tap from the chamber end, and it popped out with a few firm hits with a rubber malet on the aluminum cleaning rod.

Is paint thinner just as good as lacquer thinner to clean the chamber of the old shellac residue?

lacquer thinner removes laquer based paint.
Paint thinner is a lubricating liquid that people use after cleaning there sprayers so that they don't rust on the inside.

Good job getting the case out. I haven't had it happen to me....yet..... but I am certain it will.
