Stuck Reloads in my AR10 7.62 308

I am trying to reload for my AR10. I am using a dillon 550 with dillon dies. Everything measures up OAL, Case length etc. I am having trouble with the reload becoming stuck when the slide goes forward. Sometimes not quite closing all the way. What should I do. This has to be a sizing issue right? I am using brand new and some once maybe twice fired lapua brass. Should I be changing to a different sizing die? Thanks for all your info.

Are you full lenght sizing your brass? I think you need to on a semi.

Double check that you are screwing in the resizing die to the proper depth.

Use full length size dies too.

Yeah they are full length dies. I screw the die down to the plate and then back it off 1/2 turn as per the dillon instructions. Should a person use a small base full length die? I have a RCBS one.

What would I used to find out if it is a tight chamber? Fire off a factory match load and measure the case? This should give me the chamber meaurements? Or is there a specific tool a guy should buy?

Does it stick with factory ammo? Is this new brass, or once fired? Was it fired in this gun? Check these things and measure your reloaded cases against factory brass fired in this gun. Try screwing your die down a little more too. It sounds like a resizing issue to me. - dan

Its almost certainly a sizing issue. I cannot imagine an AR10 chamber being that tight.

You need to check you resized cases with a "case gauge".

Lyman also makes them. Screwing down to the plate and backing out a half turn is just a starting point. For a progressive reloader esp you need a guage.

I would SB size a few of your brass then chamber check in your rifle.

I had the exact same problem with a Compass Lake Barrel in 223. Went to a small base die and all my reloads feed now.

Progressive reloaders have a fair amount of play/flex in them. Even if you are backed out 1/2 a turn on the sizing die, the die will still be a fair bit off the shell holder when the ram is down on a unsized case.

Size a case, then put it in a gauge. Turn the die down 1/8 of a turn and repeat untill it passes the gauge test.

A small base die may still be neccessary, but I would bet it will not.

If the shoulder is too long, a small base die will not fix the problem.

You need a gauge.

When doing .308 on my 650 the sizing die ended up right down on the shell holder.
