Stuck Slug!?

several years ago i fired off a slug from a cut down over under gun that i owned and the recoil was so vicious and the noise so loud i thought i had damaged the gun . this was factory ammo and i am convinced that it contained extra powder or that there were other problems with the ammo . i never thought about the other slugs being defective in that particular batch . thanks for the good advice .i did check out the gun before firing it again and i was glad it was a gun in good shape and not some wore out junker .

Rifled barrel, or a constriction choke with a forcing cone?

:) I think I know what you're getting at. I'm also wondering how a slug gets stuck in a barrel when sabots and rifled slugs freely pass even through a full constriction. Slugs don't deform much in the barrel, if at all, even under a full load of powder behind it.

... My buddy pulled the trigger on the first round and there was a small 'pop', less noise than a .22. We both looked at each other, emptied the magazine and looked down the barrel and about 3" from the end of the 20" barrel was the slug, just sitting there. I poked it out at home with a wooden dowel and it was in perfect shape the paper wads had a bit of powder burn and the plastic wad was a little melted but otherwise no noticeable deformity. ...

Curious that the slug got stuck in the barrel, as you state the slug was in perfect shape and not deformed in any way.

****** SQUIB ******** basically, little or no powder. glad you guys performed a good stoppage drill. firing another round down that barrel would not have been nice. It happens more than you think, and you did the right thing with the dowel. I have a Brass rod I use for pistol, and the cleaning rods work well for AR types.

Back again, I got up my courage and fired off the rest of the slugs with no problems whatsoever. I sent off an email to Winchester and hope it was just an isolated incident. There was no remaining powder in the barrel after I opened the chamber at the time, I am going to chalk it up to a one off event.
