I just wanted to know if anyone has gotten a black bear stuffed at a taxidermy in ontario? I was talking to a few friends about my idea on getting one stuffed after my first hunt next season and one guy said it would cost like $10,000. Now I hope my gut is telling me that I am right and he is right out to lunch on that quote.

I also hope this isn't a repost, I looked around and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for

I just got home (as in about two weeks ago) with a full mount of a big black bear I took last fall. It was done by Advanced Taxidermy, in Caledon. These guys have done a few mounts for me over the years, and I'll say right now that I would never go elsewhere. The quality is superb. This is a BIG black bear (they said that they had to modify a grizzly mannequin for it as there wasn't a suitable black bear model available) on a pedestal stand. There were a few problems associated with the job, as they had to modify the completed work to allow the bear to be removed from the stand or I couldn't get it into my house, but they came through with flying colours.

I also have a traditional rug mount and a 3/4 mount (bear "coming through the wall" style) that they have done for me, and all are exceptional. As an added bonus, their delivery time has decreased from one-and-a-half years to well under a year. They aren't the cheapest taxidermist around, but you definitely get what you pay for. Cost on this bear was $4000.

Ten grand??!!! For ten grand he'd better come back with a baby sasquatch clamped in his jaws.

I dont know about out east but I know what I charge here in BC. The last one was a 6ft2 bear and I charged for that job $3750.00 on the one the other post had done at $4000 sounds right in the market price for a good job. My price is a bit lower since my overhead is not to bad were I am. A good job should be between 3700 to 4000. Just my thought for you anyway. But 10,000 does it come with the deed to a mine?

haha wow ok still expensive. I will start raiding the couch's of every old persons house I go to, to look for change lol. Does it normaly take that long to get one stuffed?

My plan was to have one standing with his arms spread a part so I can fit my flat screen tv in its paws and then taunt him as I eat his meat.:runaway:

Make sure you tell the person doing the work that you want it ti look like it is holding the tv. it will cost extra to have done and yes it is a lot of work. The reasson it takes so long is that other people have there stuff in before you and a back log starts to form. We need things back from the tanners and that alone takes quit a while. But hey you never know you could luke out and fined a newbei that is starting out and can do good work and get it back under a year.

Give Proline Taxidermy a call. Ask for Silvio. Tell him Rob and George sent you. He is on Jane St. just south of the 401. 416-244-0315 . He has been doing mounts for all the guys in our hunting group for many, many years. He does great work, and has desent prices. He did a full bear mount for a buddy of mine, a few years ago, and it came out great. Not sure how much he paid for it, but I could tell you it wasn't ten grand. If you get a chance, pass by his shop, and he will show you some of his work. I won't go anywhere else.
