Stun Cane? Legal clarification.

Volts don't really matter, they're the 'wow' factor if you will. It's the amps you have to worry about. Although getting tased does suck either way. I'd rather do contact than probe again though, if I had a choice.

I googled it just for fun. I also thought amps were the critical factor (electrical safety). Wanted to know why the different voltages if it isn't a factor. It turns out that the high voltage units are not as effective for incapacitating. They are better delivering pain (and burns I'd wager) and used mainly to deter. (Deter an aggressive cow?) ... now I know...

"Man spotted in Calgary chasing coyotes with what looks like a stick!"

Hahahaha! Coming soon to a headline near you!!! It would be the other way round though, ive only been followed by coyotes. I have actually been chased by a 5 point mulie. My son and I were lucky we were in the parking lot and got a car between the critter and ourselves. This is a novelty, of course, just like the bayonet I have for my M1A.

Strictly depends on intent.

88. Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

88. (1) Every person commits an offence who carries or possesses a weapon, an imitation of a weapon, a prohibited device or any ammunition or prohibited ammunition for a purpose dangerous to the public peace or for the purpose of committing an offence.

You got it. My understanding is that it becomes a weapon when it is used as such on another person. And you'd better have a really, really good reason to use it that way. Not that the Crown wouldn't prosecute you in any case...

I still want one though.

I took a 5 second ride on a taser during training... Not in a hurry to do it again.

I took contact too just so I could make extra fun of all the 6+ foot 200+ lb cowards who didn't do the ride for 5. I... might have been the dumb one. :HR:

Ordered one for my sister, she lives in a home, she going from a walker to cane, she keeps complaining they walk to slow in the halls
so she gets her cane, PLUS end of slow walkers

I had a few stun guns when I was living in the states and gave them away when I moved back to Ontario. We used to play around with them quite a lot, think that was back was when that show "Jack-ass" was still popular. I recall decent ones were well under $100 online and while I've taken a 200,000 volt stun gun many dozens of times I must admit 1 million volts sounds intimidating. I might have to order one just to see, of course it would be for fending off those pesky coyotes in my suburban backyard.

I assume this is legal as it fits the "cattle prod" or animal defense category and length requirements. My dad zapped himself with a cattle prod once, quite funny to watch. It made the Mennonite gentleman in the hardware store behind us crack up laughing (he didn't do it on purpose).

So what's the protocol if someone happens to you know accidentally inevitably unintentionally separate the cane from the stun gun part during a hike in the woods?

At SHOT this year, the company that distributes these was giving out gag gift shocker pens.
I got one and left it on the table for my wife...

I tell you why I would not buy this particular model fellas; If I need something as a defencive tool in the wilderness and have to use something other than a firearm, I want it to be longer and stronger than this. So that it can double as a walking cane while negotiating uneven and wooded terrain. A longer walking staff can keep an animal out of reach also, such as someone's loose dog that you don't want to "zap" and deplete the charge wastefully, on someone's loose dog well before you really need the charge for a cougar/bear. Just look at this little thing, I does not look durable enough to last even a few summers of use?
Another valid reason for stronger & longer. Picture a lonely hiker, surprizes a mother and her cubs, resulting in momma charging and getting zapped and very hopefully she retreats. Many cubs would often mimic thier mother resulting in multiple threats for the hiker. Does the walking cane hold enough juice? If not, with a longer & stronger staff one could reverse your hold and give a darn good accounting of yourself at the very least!
Gimicky flashlight, lost hiker uses flashlight to light his way, again maybe he depletes the charge when he really needs to defend himself against whatever. Outdoor use, for most of us, means actually driving for quite a ways before we get out to hike. How about a charger for the car/truck versus home plug in? And when we deplete the charge and have access to our auto, an outdoors trip is not comprimised because we cannot find a house style plug-in? Sorry CanadaAmmo, but this is junk, made for city suckers who never spend much time hiking the backcountry or camping overnight in the wilderness.

We need the 'terminator' version of this in Canada and forget about the fleshlight..............;)
