Hickory heart, toothed inner edge. Mine has the brass/rubber end cap. I haven't tried to bring it on an airplane yet because I'm afraid it'll be confiscated and it was $$$ as it is a Canemaster.
I just have to remember to limp when I carry it downtown.

My suggestion would be to walk down skid row in Vancouver and try to look helpless. Someone is gonna try to mug you and that would be a great opportunity to test it out.
