ok, are all brands and models and styles of sights going to be the same height?

i have a railed gas block, and a flat top upper. if i put one of those 'detachable front sights' on it, will it line up with any given rear sight? including a carry handle, back up iron flip down sight thingy, etc?

also can someone tell me how much higher, then the top of the rail, the line of sight is (when using irons)

im trying to mount a leupold gilmore red dot sight on my flat top, with some sort of a spacer, and i dont have any irons whatsoever, but i want to get an iron front sight, as well as some sort of detachable rear sight, and i want to make sure i get a pair that will work, and i want to make sure that i get a riser for my red dot sight that will still let me use the irons through the bottom of the glass. im thinking that the a.r.m.s. #5 http://www.armsmounts.com/catalog.php?action=124&item_id=2
will work for me. but i really don't know.

btw: the bottom of the glass starts just .4" above the top of the rail

thanks guys

Here's what I can tell you. Midwest industries offers two different front sights. One is for railed gas blocks, the other is for railed fore-ends. Their heights differ to accommodate standard rear Irons mounted to the receiver. If you use the correct front sight, then any rear sight should work.

The ARMS riser is 3/4 inch which is quite high. It could very well cause you to lose your cheek weld, requiring you to goose neck or free float your head to see through the red dot. Something in the 1/2 inch area should work better for establishing the lower 1/3 co-witness you're trying to achieve. Might I ask why you want to elevate your red dot? If you're concerned with seeing your front sight post, your concerns are false. Red dots are supposed to be used with both eyes open with your focus on the target. If you do that, the front sight becomes a faint blur(a fixed front sight that is). If you run a folding front, there's no concern.

i want to elevate it because it sits very low to begin with, i really have to strain to look through it straight. if i were looking inline with the top of it, it is much more comfortable. i had a measurement from a folding rear sight, that showed even it, in the folded position will take away some of my line of sight through the red dot sight. im pretty sure that when folded up, it will be completely blocking the red dot, and same goes for the front. if you send me your email in a private message i'll shoot you a pic of my setup. i dont know how to post them here.
