I am not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but if it is not, I am sure a moderator will move it.

I am a hunter, but at times it is embarrassing to admit it. This is one of those times. A friend of mine, who works near Auburn, Michigan, sent me this news link. Read on and see how stupid hunting accidents actually happen.

Robert, with all due respect and not wanting to #### on your parade...don't you think that we suffer enough of our own home grown hunting accidents in Canada without having to add the stupidity from south of the 49th to the mix? Just my opinion.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Have you ever heard of a "stupid" carpenter who cut off his finger with a skill saw? Or what about the "stupid" machinised who drilled into his foot? Or how about the "stupid" golfer who hit a ball into a tree and it came back into his eye?

Alol sorts of people have "accidents" and many of them seem "stupid" and preventable when viewed after the fact. Guns are powerful and have the potential to be very dangerous. We must be careful out there guys. And try our best to avoid situations where "accidents" could happen.

Like if you NEVER put your hand or body over a gun barrel, one will NEVER shoot you. If you allow a barrel to point at you once, it could be the one in a million times it discharges by "accident"

" Carry a cell phone in case an accident occurs."

Of course I only hunt withing range of a Cell Tower.......

We actually had a satellite phone with us this year and we did get it to work for 2 minutes one night:mad:

Bottom line is be prepared and yeah, accidents can happen.

Yes you are right, but that was not my intent

Are not all accidents stupid? Could you give an example of a smart accident?
Yeah god forbid we should sit in a homemade tree stand!

Ok guys,

Yes, I can see the point you are all making, but I think that my intent here was misunderstood, and for that, I apologize.

My intent was not a “holier-than-thou” attitude but rather a “here we go again” attitude. I find that my non-hunting friends often send me such links, maybe out of concern and maybe just to tease me. Which ever, they do so because they have heard me tell my own funny stories about mishaps in the bush. Thank God they were not serious mishaps, but Lord knows, I have my share as well.

Like everything else in life, it is a question of odds. The more time you spend doing something, the more likely it is that you will have incidents pertaining to that activity.

Robert

The fact of the matter is that hunting is still safer statistically then almost any other sport/activity/hobby going. The stats are out there and if I had ready access to them I would have included them.

I just got an e-mail from my brother telling about an incident near Viking Alberta. Apparently 160 cows walked out onto a dugout and the ice was not thick enough to support them. They brole through and all dround. It didn't say weather or not they had hockey sticks with them.

Not a smart accident but I wouldn't call the farmer stupid for not putting up "DANGER THIN ICE" signs around the dugout.

Patrick L. Crisci, 41, of Sabula, suffered a fractured neck and back after falling from a tree stand Saturday around 6:30 a.m. Reports indicated Crisci fell an estimated 20 feet, landing on his head, when wood on his tree stand gave away. Authorities investigating the incident said Crisci walked to his truck, drove home and called 911.

Wow. Say what you want, but this guy must be one tough bastard.
