Question to ponder,

Why don't companies make replacement polymer frames for a variety of pistols? I.e. say I had a gen one glock but wanted a light rail, I could just buy a new redesigned frame made to fit my slide, slap in the parts from my original frame and voila esentially a completely new gun. Kinda like repllacing the stocks on rifles. This would have been cost prohibitive before the polymer age but now the frames hould be fairly easy to design and reasonably inexpensive.....

Imagine buying a new polymer frame for that old Tokarev!

am I way off my mark here? Of course in canada we;d have to register the frame;)

It is the molds to make the frames that cost the money, the plastic in a frame is probably the most inexpensive part. If you can sell lots of them , you can pay for the molds and make money. But how much cheaper could you sell gun frames , some are going for $100 to $200. Even if they could make them cheaper they would be around that price. Premium gun frames are $400 to $700.

"...Why don't companies make...like replacing the stocks on rifles..." Because, in Canada, the frame is the part that is registerable. The same paperwork would be required as for a whole pistol. So it's nothing like changing a rifle stock.
