Stupid mistake -- Help

My concern is the shot will clog up the powder bar and it will throw bad charges. As far as contamination, I have no idea. If you want to play it safe, just discard the powder container. Sucks but don't take the risk for $200 worth of powder.

EDIT, if there's a safe way to strain the powder from the shot, I would give it a try.

The shot will be a lot heavier/more dense. Dump it into a smaller, wide mouthed container like a margarine tub, and gently shake. the shot will sift to the bottom, so you can scoop the powder off of the top. As for the little bit left mixed in wth the shot, well...it could have been worse! I don't think having a little mixed into your shot will make much of a difference unless you're shooting at flaming targets within 5 feet or so.

What size shot? If you know the diameter of the shot, you should be able to find a wire mesh a little bit smaller than the shot. Make up a funnel type arrangement and pour it through. shot stays powder passes through. Have fun! Brain cramps happen.

Like everyone says the shot will be heavier so it will go to the bottom when you shake it. Then pour off the powder till you see a piece of shot fall out, stop. To save the rest of the shot pour it into a bucket on a windy day the powder will blow away, fertilizing the lawn.
my 2 cents

Get a lead magnet and use that to lift out the shot....

SMACK!

That was for not having a smiley face with your funny quip.

Go by a wire mesh strainer, a large CLEAN plastic bowl and containers for both sifted shot and the sifted powder.

Pour your 8lb jug thru the strainer in reasonable amounts (AKA pour slow and stop once the strainer gets difficult to strain with (heavy or too much shot preventing powder going through).

Stop the pouring and shake the residual powder through the stariner. Dump the shot in the strainer into the other new container. Repeat until all shot sifted out of the mix.

You may lose few ounces of powder sticking to the shot, but save yourself nearly 8 pounds of powder...

Holy crap Biguglyman your wife must spend a long time in the tub. Mine is only in long enough for me to only get started on trouble. Guess i`m a slow starter.;)

haa thanks guys its #9 lead so its a pain to get out, the powder flakes are not much smaller than the shot. tried the strainer got alot out but still some in. I can tell when i dump the powder into the hull and hear a little ting sound lol. I think it will be okay now, might have a few punky shells but its better than waisting 8lb of powder. Next time i will glue my thinking cap on :p

Wait 'til she's at work. Or in the tub. Many nefarious deeds can be carried out while she's in the tub.

Ha! I read this as "do the sieving in the tub".... In my house many nefarious deeds have been carried out in the tub!

And yes, sieving should fix your problem. :D

I'd avoid plastic seives and bowls when working the shot out of the powder. If I was in your shoes, there is a wire mesh spagetti strainer in the kitchen. (It was mine before you moved in dear ....) By moving the powder around in plastics you'll probably get a slight static electric charge. It won't blow up on you, but it will be a little more messy.
