Well the plant this year has a very large problem with Marmot's! These things are huge and everywhere! A lot of the work for shutdown this year was replacing the wiring these little bastards were chewing on. Then come the other problems of them getting into machinery, getting underfoot etc. I offered to bring my .22 and even supply my own ammo and picking them off while I do my patrols but sadly they couldn't allow that even though the liked the 100% free factor :D

Instead they had to hire some guy to come in and trap them. Now the ladies who work at the plant are in a big stink about this because they like to watch them and feed them during breaks.

Still say my idea would have been more fun :p

They used to live in the concrete barriers around our highschool... could always see them sun tanning during breaks and stuff... They can get pretty big.

The bloody things are HUGE! I mean you can't miss them if you tried!

Ahhh, The Pink Mist.....
Brings a tear to my eye when I see them behind a chain link fence like that;)
You should get a trappers lic. and offer your services as a sub contractor after hours of course. Like on your days off.
Nice picture too.

If you're talking about the Capital Power co-generation plant on Mackenzie, they can't allow it because it is within city limits and firearms are not allowed to be discharged within city limits by local bylaw.

A bow or crossbow is within limits as are <500 fps pellet guns. I don't see sub 500 fps pellet guns as being good yellow bellied marmot killers though.

Looks like a typical size ground hog. I have seen many that size or bigger in Ontario, and in the Midwest US.

We encountered them here in the North West. Generally run into them camping. We had one during one of our Summer camping seasons. The bugger never missed ,he was at our fire pit waiting for us every Friday. His favourite food was green apples(Granny Smiths) And he would play with my Manx cat. I could never figure that one out the manx hated everything but they got along.
I can see where they would be a real pain around a plant.

I do know the laws :p

My offering was a joke, Im friends with the guy who runs the plant. And last I checked williams lake also had a bylaw about bows in city limits as well like Quesnel does.

No it doesn't.

Bows of any type or airguns are not included within Williams Lake's bylaws. it is perfectly legal to hunt with them inside city limits.

Without looking it up I thought the marmot was a protected species in B.C.

They can only be shot on private property and even then only for crop protection.

Golden eagles love to snag them whenever they have a chance. Cougars and coyotes also eat their fair share of the little whistle pigs.
