Can someone explain to me what the difference is between a regular and a magnum round? I never quite understood... I'm more particularly interested in the difference in .22 calibre rounds. Thanks!

The 22's (BB cap, CB, short, long and long rifle) are the same (rim and case diameter) except for the case length. But there is one case that's slightly longer than the long rifle and that's the CCI Stinger.

The 22 magnum is slightly fatter and the rim is slightly thicker, but is quite a bit longer.

They all take the same diameter bullet.

The CCI Stinger will not fit a match chamber as well as some rifle chamebers that are cut standard.

RePete.

The original "magnum" cartridge was the H&H. They named it after a magnum of champagne. Which as you all know is a double-size bottle holding about 1.5 litres. (I think the Ultra-Magnum should have been called the Jeroboam, in just to keep the tradition, which of course would make the big Weatherbys Rehoboams  )

22LR casing dimensions...body=7/32"...length=15mm(chamber is 19mm)
22Magnum casing dimensions...body=1/4"...length=30mm(or so)

both proectiles are .22calibre
