stupid question time... is a 303 a long or short action?

With a ball projectile, a .303 round was too long for a 700 Remington .308 length magazine box, which is a typical short action.

Lee Enfield is a short action, Ross MkIII and P14 are long but seeing as how these actions were only made in one length it is irrelevant.

The P-14 is actually a long action. It's been used to house big elephant-classed cartridges. It was way over-engineered for the .303 cartridge.

The Ross is long enough for the big cartridges too, and that comes back to the 303 being a cartridge, that typically fits long action arms.
The real question is whether the typical SMLE type rifle can be considered a medium? :) length action??
