Yup when you compare the 30-06 P17 action to the .303 P-14 action there isn't any obvious difference...besides the Chambers.
Hence why during WW2 the British Home Guard painted a Red stripe on the forguard of the P-17...so someone wouldn't injure themselves, or bugger up the rifle using .303 ammo, in the 30-06 chamber.
And last time I checked the 30-06 was considered a long action.
