Has anybody here ever tried to remove live primers from a casing in order to recover the primers to use again?

It came up in a conversation and everybody was sure they were right that you can or can't but none had tried, so I thought I'd ask here.

I have.
You might shift the anvil when depriming, though. This might not contribute to the most consistant ignition.

ive only done this with small rifle primers, and i have had no problems with shifting the anvil, not to say it wont happen, cause they are fairly delicate. to put it one way, i wouldnt use the second hand primers in hunting loads.

I've done it a few times and I've never had a primer fail when reused.....but I won't use them if I'm hunting. They're just not worth a broken gun. The broken gun would result from me missing a shot because I was so cheap that I used what I know are possibly f-ed up primers. That could result in me being so pi##ed off with myself that I might smack the gun off a tree or the ground :D

I no longer take chances pushing live primers out of 9mm brass.
The bullet gets pulled and the cartridge gets chucked out, primer & all.

If the primer is sticking way out, I'll gently pull it with pliers after removing the bullet & powder. The primer is reusable.

I've just primed 49 rds of new brass with recovered primers, and reloaded 19 rounds for a ladder test. Might be a while before I try them, but I'll let you know how they work... :)
