Just though I'd throw this up for anyone shooting the STW. This is the fourth STW I've owned over the years. I bought it to rebarrel to 375. Thought I'd shoot it a bit just for fun. The things a drill. Will be useing it for my Deer gun this year. My previous STWs all liked H4831 best. I know this is not the normal powder for this round but that's what they liked. This one absolutely loves 7828. I fired some 1/2" groups fireforming with the 139 Horn. Don't shoot light bullets so wasn't that excited. Switched to the 160 TSX and got several sub 3/4" groups at 100 yds then a 2"er at 300. Next day out shot the 160 Noslers, same load 78 grs. 7828. Several sub 3/4"ers and a .4". Yesterday back to the 160 TSX, 3 sub inchers and the last group of the day was a .82" at 200 yds. First time in years I've worked up a load without chronoing it. Looks like I've got accuracy now I'll check the speed. Did I mention I bedded the action in factory tupperware.

Morning Dan, I've got a bunch of Rel. 25 left over from my 338-378. I'll probably give it a try too although it got it's work cut out for it to beat 7828. Should be interesting to see the speed as it only has a 24" barrel.

Bought a used Ruger#1 stainlees in 7mmSTW with plans to rebarrel in 50 Alaksan. Just had to test it out with a few load prior to a teardown, big mistake. Shoots sub MOA with most 160 gr. bullets and R25. Its been over a year and it still hasn't been rebarreled to the Alaskan. I best be looking for another action.

My 7mm STW really shone with Retumbo and the 160 grainers. Sub MOA all the way out past 600 yards. This was at around 3270 MV in a 27" Pac-Nor 1-10 twist tube. Shot like a laser. I took Elk, Moose, big muleys, Black Bears and coyotes at long range with it. Only reason I don't still have it is a hunting pal who saw it in action just HAD to have it, and keft upping the ante till I sold it to him. Regards, Eagleye.

I had two Remington 700 7mm mags rechambered to 7mm STW back in 93 and they were probably one of the first ones on the Island. It was too much for the shorter distances we shoot around here and would really make a mess of the little deer critters we have.
Where it really worked well was when the distance opened up to around four hundred yards, the 160 grain Nosler Partition was the bullet of choice over IMR 7828.:shotgun:

79 grains RL 25 + 160 grain TSX + 26" bbl = 3370 fps

That's an Alliant load, no excess case wear and DAYUM is it accurate. Reminds me, I need to get out and shoot the STW this weekend...

I had bullet failure with partitions in 160 on a moose. I would go for an x or Sierra. Honestly think I was pushing the partition past its window. For deer I use a 100 gr. x bullet 22-250 velocity out of a 100 gr. bullet.
