I would love to see a home shop fix thread. You could completely re fab the back end. The O so cheesy buffer tube attachment piece could be re machined to support the back of the repared receiver. That bolted on part, and it's downward angle to the stock, are my least favorite parts of my su-16.

Oh, I bought the stock adapter kit separately and it definitely comes with 2 mounting styles. One is angled/low for iron sights, the other is straight and more suited for scopes.Really? I'm going to have to look into this, I bought mine off the EE. I have no straight adapter
Just spoke with Gary at Vault...apparently Kel Tec has decided not to do anything for me. This is not unexpected, since I'm not the original owner. Kel Tec won't even sell me a stripped upper receiver so that I can fix my gun...lol.
I hope that all of you who are buying those SU-16's like hotcakes from the EE don't have one blow up on you. Otherwise, you will end up with the same expensive piece of garbage in your closet.
I'm done with Kel Tec...don't think I'll ever buy another piece made by them ever again.
Well, I haven't given up all hope yet. I notice in my owner's manual that Kel Tec specifically states when work is not covered under Warranty, that they will send a quote and have the owner decide if he wants to pay to have the rifle fixed or not. I'm not 100% sure if there are any "USA only" stipulations to this...but it doesn't read like it the way it's written.
This is certainly contrary to what Vault has been telling me...basically that Kel Tec doesn't want to have anything to do with my rifle. My suspicions? I'm starting to think that Vault just doesn't want to have anything to do with me or my rifle that I bought off the EE...even though I was very clear that I would pay to have my receiver fixed. I feel like I'm getting the run around...but that should be confirmed soon as I've gone directly to Kel Tec and sent them an angry email explaining how unacceptable I feel it is to refuse to fix (with me paying) one of their rifles and force the owner to throw $700 out in the garbage...especially since this issue with broken receivers is certainly not unknown to them.
Anyway...if Vault did in fact speak with them, then I will get the same answer and be as equally disappointed with my rifle. If Vault is just giving me stories because they don't want to deal with me, then I will get a different response from Kel Tec and be disappointed with the way Vault has handled this. It'll be interesting to find out which is the truth.![]()
I can not believe the run around you are being forced to deal with. If one silver lining can be found in this, it's the clarification you are getting for the rest of us kel-tec owners. customer payed repairs should be covered under the same export permits as warranty work as far as i'm concerned.
I got an email from Kel Tec's customer service representative a couple of days ago and she said Kel Tec would be happy to fix my receiver for $40 if I get it to them and pay for return shipping. Gary on the other hand told me that he had been told by a Kel Tec executive in the past that they would have absolutely nothing to do with Canadian repairs unless it is covered by warranty. The literature that comes with rifles sold in Canada state that Kel Tec would provide a quote to repair rifles that are not covered under warranty...with no exclusion clauses for rifles sold in Canada. Gary said that the man hours involved to hunt down the original BATF export permit and then arrange for new paperwork to bring my repaired rifle into Canada would run into the "hundreds of dollars" unless Kel Tec decides to cover it. Because of this, he felt that the customer service rep had no business telling me that Kel Tec will fix my rifle.
You can see where this has created a bunch of confusion for me. To be fair, Gary has been quite pleasant to deal with on the phone...but because I'm being told conflicting things, I can't help but feel that I'm being given the run around. Anyway, the saga continues. I've forwarded Kel Tec's email to Gary, and he is going to follow it up with their VP, supposedly. I'm waiting to hear back from him sometime next week.
I personally feel that since I've been told that Kel Tec would fix my rifle, and the manual also states this, that there should be a way to get it to them and back again. They do this for their warranty repairs, I don't understand at this point why the same process can't be applied to my situation? I find it hard to believe that they would have to spend hours on end hunting down paperwork for every single rifle that they ship for warranty...but maybe I'm wrong. If Kel Tec wants to wash its hands clean of non-warranty rifles in Canada, then it should state that in their manual. Those are my thoughts, anyway...
