SU-16FX Worth the cash?

Sorry to have to go against the grain again but also avoid the mini 14 in my opinion. It is built much better than the SU-16 but the one I had (1987 production stainless ranch with 1:7 twist) was minute of barn door and was so overgassed it would throw brass 30 feet and hit other guys at the benches when I was at the range.
The T-97 is a disposable rifle with zero parts support and zero warranty. I would also avoid those even though the one I got to play with for a while was quite accurate and didn't have any stoppages.

If you want non restricted and are on a budget I would find a used Armalite AR180-B but wait for one on the EE for under $1600 and then pounce on it. If you can't find one of those then the next best thing is the XCR. After that you get into the Tavor and converted ACR price range.
These rifles may cost a little more but you will be much happier with one of them once you have it.
The new mini 14 580 series is light years more accurate than the old 180+ series. Although they look similar they really shouldn't have the same name because they're nothing alike. They still throw brass a country mile but with a smaller gas bushing (10$) and a rear buffer (6$) the brass drops at your feet.

I put a buffer in mine and all it did was make the lock back after last round unreliable.

Glad to hear the new ones are better but I wouldn't spend my money on one when I think there are better options out there.
They are also off my list due to them not using AR mags.

I'll +1 the buying of an AR180b. While I don't regret selling mine to buy a Swiss Arms, I do miss it at times. It was lightweight, reliable, and relatively accurate. While I do feel that $1600 is a little too much for the rifle, they hold their value, so you'll have no problem getting your money back if you sell it down the road.

As for the ACR, IMO it's highly underrated. I've been very impressed with my (restricted) rifle. You can pick up a used one for $2k and get it rebarreled for $500. I almost hate to admit it, but I prefer my ACR to my Swiss Arms...

The older pencil barrel Mini14 is a far cry from the newer thicker barrel improved model thats been on the market the last few years , the accuracy is now on par with with other semi .223 rifles . The only downside i can see with the Mini now is it does not take AR type mags . Always wondered if someone could make a aftermarket chassis/stock for the mini that would make it take AR mags. The T97 is the best NR .223 semi under $1000 , and there is parts support , NS can get any part you need im sure , they will just part out a whole rifle , I know Canammo sure will when they have them .

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Made my decision fairly simple...save my money! One thing I forgot to mention is I'm shopping in the nonrestricted depot so it can see the light of day without needing to proclaim it's innocence. I do want something that will take advantage of the AR magazines and be as accurate as possible. A 3 inch group at 100 is a miss at 400! I don't want a bull pup design with the magazine behind the trigger. That being said, can anybody speak for the Robinson Armaments xcr-m's in 308 or 260?

whichever xcr you get make sure its a newer model or an older model thats been upgraded to the newer trigger and bolt ect. I have the L and its amazing. I went this route because its cheap to feed. ive shot my friends M a lot too and its just as good. just not cheap to feed

humm, i'd go with the acr, and get it rebarrelled in non restricted with a top quality barrel. you'll get your accuracy mostly from the barrel
