Sub-2000; A quick field review

The long hair and the big beard possibly could get in there for sure; most of us will be ok though!

One other note about the cocking handle; it unfortunately doesn't lock back on the last shot. This means you can drop the mag, but can't load another one until you lock the handle rearward. Makes for a slower mag change than a pistol.

Does the cocking handle cycle back and forth as you fire?
yes it does, and people say it is quite close to the face, but report no incidents. just dont have a mountain man beard and lady hair while shooting it lol

This is incorrect, you can load another mag with the bolt down just like any other semi action. You throw a mag and in and pull the bolt back, just skip locking the bolt back.

I'm doing the same, but I have no info about when they are coming... Does anyone know anything? .40 would be sweet! :)

.40 is iffy, if at all...Kel Tec is concerned with using a bored out stock 9mm barrel with the .40 S&W bullet. They wont release the .40 cal until they have the proper barrel strength. ie new barrel... And I dont think this is at the top of their priority list at the moment....see shotguns etc.....

I just tried it again and you're right. Thanks.

I guess I thought it wasn't possible because of how hard it is to lock it in with the bolt closed (at least on mine it's really tough to push it up). With the bolt back it kinda just slips in easy, bolt closed quite a bit of force (I guess compressing the rounds in the mag).

Update:
Just got an email from Gary (Wanstalls) and thought I'd share; these quad mounts are the new-style ones that were apparently redesigned; good stuff! Order placed..

I emailed Wanstalls about the quad rail they're selling; I'm trying to find out if it's the "new-style" one or the extremely problematic original one. Reading the KTOG forums there appears to be a redesigned version that is either shipping now or soon to the resellers. The original one seems to only last for a very small percentage of people using it; most find it failing after as little as 10 rounds.

I did not know that.I ordered one yesterday from Wanstalls. He was out but said he is picking more up next week.I hope they are the newer ones.

OH BOY HERE WE GO.

9mm carbine vs bear.
w:h:

I don't normally get into the 'what's best for bear' nonsense, but If I'm going to go hiking in the woods with my family and I have a choice of this or a can of bear spray, I know what I'd rather have in my backpack.

One issue with the gun for lefties is accidentally releasing the mag. Happened to me twice when I first took the gun to the range. If you shoot left your trigger finger is directly over the mag release button and must be kept slightly away from the grip or you will squeeze the mag release as you pull the trigger and suddenly have no bullets left in the gun. It also seems to blow alot of garbage back in my face when its fired, no empty casing though.

With some sort of quick detach rail/sight it'd probably hold zero to some extent. You'd have the best of both worlds; keep the ability to fold it up and mount an optic to help with the fit/aiming it.

Look Ma No sights!

hey guys, the gf got hers in the mail this week and we ran 100rnds of fmj flat tip though it today. One jam, I blaim her and her sissy arms for not pulling the bolt back far enough ;) Work's great, punched holes in a 4x4" target shot after shot. Seamed to loosen up and run smoother after the first 50rnds. I agree she is super easy to clean and operate. The last shot hold open is not a huge issue as you can slam a loaded mag home and re #### without a problem. My only complaint is getting the odd blast of power in the face, but Im a lefty. The gf loves it and thats what counts. Its a fun gun, cheep to shoot and she said it will make her feel safe when camping. I'll still be luging the 12g full of bear spray...er, slugs. I see coments about it not feeling like a 700 $ firearm, well, it doesnt and it isnt. Its a 300$ gun that was modded by kel tec to be legal for sale in canada. We foot the bill for a truly special gun, worth it, you betcha. If I can find a way to keep from getting blasted in the face when it cycles I will get one for myself. great little firearm, just the thing for younger people getting into the sport, or smaller framed women.

one questioin tho, I know nothing about pistols, what model of glock mag' does this thing use? She is having issued jaming in the 10th round due to her little fingers, and honestly, its a PITA for me as well. I was thinking it might be easier to load a 15 rnd mag thats been pined to 10...any idea's?

Glock 17 mags. The more you use the mags, the more the spring will break in a bit. I only have the 10 round mags so I can't comment on the pinned ones. I know my older mags definitely load easier than the one that came with it.

Grab yourself a Maglula UpLula for loading; you'll thank me later! ;)

Is it just me or is it the front sight that's a stubborn b@$t@rd to adjust. No hick-up's to report other than that and the fact that there is no bolt release button and the iron sight's are lacking the comfort factor when using them. As for the no bolt release feature I find it a pain in the back side because you have to rack that tab that is located behind your field of view every time you pop in a loaded mag.
Now for the accuracy, pie plates are definitely easy to do at 50 meter's and clay birds at 25 meter's with just the plain jane iron sight's in the standing position with no use of a sling. Now I am pretty dam positive that if there was a viable mounting solution that these groups would shrink substantially.
Still don't think it was worth over $700 for it. Who know's maybe it will start to grow on me.

hey mctonyb, Thanks for the tip, Im gonna order one. Man, I tell ya...my only complaint was trying to keep up loading mags. She would empty one befor I could re load the second one. Other then that I think its decent. Like I said, its not a $700 gun, look at what the cost is state side for the 16" version. We are paying the canadian firearm inflation rate
