Sub $500, 9mm recommendations for 1st pistol?

Not in nine

well i was kinda joking about the hi-point... but i think they do make a 9mm. i have a feeling epps sells them.

ide still say get the sr9 they have fairly good reviews, every gun has a good and a bad review, so you have to take them with a grain of salt.

my glock 17 is great, but i had to replace the guiderod & spring (free) and the ejector had a new version released as well due to it throwing brass all over and some in the face...ive got that part being ordered.. its $8.. not a big deal.
its not perfect, but its still great.

Ruger SR9 is around $489 NEW plus tax...great gun, lots of features.

OR shop used...deals are not to hard to find on the EE.

Baikal Viking from Interammo. Eats all kind of ammo, very accurate, competition model for $500 -- sweet!

I personally own one and I love it and can vouch for it!
I bought it from Interammo. The owners are super friendly and very knowledgeable. They're the only official importers (besides Baikal Canada) of those here in Canada.

Get more mags upfront though because you won't be able to get them later.

^^ Recommended this a few pages ago ... And no one noticed.

Next time I'll include the pic! I think this will be my next one, I like the weird ones. Guns that is.

If I am not mistaken it is the new service side arm of some of the Russian Military branches too. So pretty much a Russian 92FS at SR9 prices!

(Not to derail topic, but add to) How do you like yours?

SR9 is just about the best you can get sub $500. They are out of stock everywhere now but last year I pre-ordered mine @ Dante's for $447 (many others were gouging up to $600 for them due to popularity and short supply)

I think the Wild West Shooting centre has a couple in stock, I would give them a call.

IMO this is along with the Girsan are the best pistols in this price range.

highly recommended. I have had one for about 10 yrs - 8500+ rounds not a single problem

Save up $300 more and wait til the lower mainland gun sales in December. Reliable, Wanstalls and Italian all have inventory blowouts.

I'll have you know that my made in China, Norinco 1911 45,
out shoots my American made Hi-Point JHP 45, anyday!
And that's with using Made in China, Norinco ammo.

A hipoint is 120-140$ brand new.... a Norinco is $300+.

I'd have to give a nod to the Girsan as well.

Specifically the Remedy MC (or Yavuz 16) is a solidly built $450 piece of ###. As previously mentioned, it's a Beretta 92f clone. Depending on who you talk to, they are supposedly machined on Beretta's own equipment.

Should be attractive to both first time owners and collectors alike.

Really, you're not going to go wrong with any of the suggestions in this thread. Go to a local gun store and put some in your hands. See what feels right on the range. You'll be spending much more on ammo.
