Sub $500, 9mm recommendations for 1st pistol?

Had my Girsan Regard for some time and not a problem.

I just bought a Ruger SR-9 as my first pistol. It is in the mail enroute to my home as we speak. I had trouble finding them in stock anywhere. I did however find mine at a place called Barton's Big Country Outdoors. It was $499 like many places. I am really looking forward to it.

Congrats; sounds like a really solid choice. Now you can buy more ammo with all the money saved.
 
you will enjoy it. Looks great, fits the hand well, and points extremely naturally.

Its a bit gritty when new, in both the slide and the trigger. Both can be smoothed out and then its great. my trigger is now the nicest striker fired trigger I have used. All stock parts too, so far.

it can be hard to find aftermarket parts for it, as its not a 1911 or M&P, but you can find a really nice holster at Comp-Tac. Mags from NR Mags(on here)

It punches above its weight class as it were

SR9 is a great gun for the price (sub $500)
i picked up a brand new NP22 off a co worker for like $150 and i am shocked with how solid the gun is!
id even pay the full price of $360 for one now that i know how nice they are!
if you didnt know it was a norinco you wouldnt be able to tell.... i guess im just use to the ruff milling on the norc 1911's that the NP22 totally shocked me.

but ya, the SR9 is a fantastic gun for the money.
i recommend it to anyone looking to get into pistols on the cheap.
mid range or course id say go S&W M&P 9 but we are talking sub $500 here.
 
Got the SR9 today and it looks great. It fits into my somewhat girly hands nicely. I also like the look of the cz 75 and it may be a possibility for a second choice. Meanwhile I am going to get familiar with handgun shooting with the SR9. I hear alot about the Glock 17 3rd Gen. Seems to be a popular choice. What makes this weapon so good? I only shot a Glock one time and I thought it felt very much like a toy. Very plasticy. It was accurate though I must say.

One other thing I if I may add. When the delivery guy came today he asked me what I was having delivered. Without thinking twice I told him it was a gun. So instead of asking for usual id he asked to see my FAC. Obviously meaning my PAL. Again just figuring I had to show id anyways I didn't question it. It wasn't until later I thought, what the hell was I thinking?

For starters it's none of his damn business what I am being delivered. And secondly what authority or qualification does he have to request my PAL? He obviously did not know what he was looking at as he did not look on the back to see that it is an RPAL not just a PAL. He didn't even know what he was delivering until I told him. He said those are different weigh bills and the only things they cover are guns, ammo, or marijuana. When I called his company (Loomis or part of DHL) they said he should not be asking those questions nor is that info required. They said a supervisor would check into it.

Glocks are the most widely used manufacturer of pistols for le use. I don't recall the exact percentage but a huge percentage of the police forces across the globe runs them. They are stone dead reliable(unless you get a lemon) parts are everywhere, both factory and aftermarket, as a result of the long and widespread service it has built up a reputation for being reliable. So if there is a round chambered and the ammo is not a dud, and you pull the trigger, it will send the round down the tube every time. And because of how many of them there are they are not spectacularly expensive same goes for the parts when you do break something plenty there and they don't cost that much.
