Sub2000 gen-3

I was just looking at Midwest Industries optic mount the other day. Been using iron sights but tried RDS and now want to have one and be able to fold. Guess I’ll hold off for a couple of months. If that twist fold thing is the only difference than might as well go with a mount and spend some money on other accessories.

10mm would be kool, but on the flip side..one in .22, or better yet .22 Magnum {with 'dedicated' magz/shorter barrel}!

I think this is a great improvement. What about that stupid charging handle? Looks like a flip in that video but we all know what PITA it is. My partner could not charge that thing. Sold it. And then the sights.

My solution has been twofold.
First, install the M*Carbo two finger charging handle.
The second part is a "twofold" in itself.
Install a Magpul AFG2 grip on the lower picatinny, then an M-Lok handstop to capture your thumb as you grip the AFG.
To top it off, get one of those big fat blue elastics that hold your broccoli heads together and wrap that around the two finger charging handle.
That grippiness will have the weakest 12 year old in your family charging the S2K like an operator!

I kinda got the Sub.2K for my GF..but ya! ##### it was difficult to charge. I got ANOTHER one..& it was "better'.

Use the old handgun trick, worked just fine on S2k when I was teaching my wife. Instead of pulling with one hand, tell her to pull with one hand and push with another. Now the strong hand will do the most of the work.

From my experience with the sub2k, it is an interesting back packing design and that is it. If you want a heavy carbine that is dead nuts reliable and just a bit slower to assemble for use, the Ruger PCC will work and also work as a competitive Competition gun if you are in that sport for the fun of participation. The Gen3 is clearly in response to the S&W FPN which again was made to satisfy the needs of backpackers. The suggested downside to the gun as above is it relies on M&P mags not Glock mags. You get three mags with the gun for 30 rds here in Canada. In what Universe does anyone think you might need more than 30 rds available to you while using in the bush? The FPN is not designed for competition though for that we have the new entry carbine form S&W which is a gun that is not really designed for bush patrol but likely is capable and reliable enough to compete in the Competition world.

I guess what I am driving at is if you are looking for a 9MM carbine try to define what you are going to use it for the most then look realistically at what your 2nd use is.

For me, with no kids or mortgage to worry about I went with a Raven9, build quality is just a cut above my FX9. The latter now is a dependable shooter with round nose bullets and with a lock back feature that works with some but not all Glock after market mags. Forget Glock OEM mags though, none will hold the bolt back after the last round, period in my gun. The FX9 with a 10" barrel sings in use with IDPA/IPSC Competitions (when I say sing it is more like a slow waltz). :>)

ps if you really do hike in the back country and want a gun to take small game with buy a compact carbine in .22LR. If you want something for both small game ie rabbits and defense against bears carry a 12g shotgun with slugs and birdshot.

Sound advice ^^
I just bought & received a Sub2K from Tenda on sale ($699) as I've never handled one - for me its just an inexpensive (??) plinker, I'll carry something more useful in the bush
They sure feel cheap but the weight and small package is kinda cool
If it ever warms up, I'll take it out for a run - I don't feel confident shooing a plastic gun at minus holy####

Canuck get a drill bit and carefully drill out the aperture rear sight. You want to widen it just a hair. I found the gun a lot easier to shoot accurately with a wider hole in the rear sight.

That's a pretty good look at all the improvements.... keltec is getting close to being ready to make one out of aluminum soon!

The shorter grip and improved connection with the buffer tube makes good sense along with the redesigned ejection port and metal trigger.
The barrel latch is simple and effective regardless of stock length.

Looks like a nice new model overall, with more improvements then first meets the eye!

Adding some folding iron sights would be easy and likely perform better then the stock gen 2 sights which require some unorthodox canting of the rifle to shoot comfortably.

And how many twist...does it have before pins and swibbles start to losing?..very cool idea...did the price jump up very much..probably did...there's alot more work in making one like this compared to the old fold in half design.

The gen 2 with barrel clamp mount and micro red dot on the extra ~2.5" Canadian compliant barrel section adds almost nothing to the profile of the firearm and lets you run any height riser you want. It's not a great solution but it's cheap and compact.

Many off set red dot rail mounts will put the red dot off to the side enough to fold and all you need to do when shooting with the red dot is cant the rifle to the side.

This one works well, is made by Weaver in the USA and currently on sale.

Kind of funny that the amazon description created a train wreck withh the offset rail but if you copy and paste it.... trains and all you will get to the link.

Maybe the particular 45* I had was extra thick on the top rail but the S2K wouldn't latch in the folded position for me, I didn't have any MLOK 45* on hand so I couldn't come up from the side. That also brings us back to a ?gen 3? style setup where the optic increases the girth of the firearm.
