Sub2000 gen-3

LOL! keep waiting.......
On a serious note: There is a reason keltec is using polymer for everything.... (**cough** and MAGPUL) ** They can mold it, and it requires no CNC or metal work. Their whole business is based off of this. Mass produced polymer "quasi-junk" ... If they actually made 6061 or 7075 alum version of their designs, Im SURE THEY would MOON .... that would take their "little florida gun manf" business to another level. They would literally go from "$10M USD to $100M USD"^1 revenue to $500M+

KELTEC is great for a range toy or bush gun, but personally I would look for something more reliable longterm.

Next thing you know some clown Austrian company will want to make plastic pistols..... :)

The future arrived years ago they just never bothered to tell us.... the cost of manufacturing is not going up with the advances in technology that's for sure.... the new "labour" cost is going to be energy not people.

We live in a world where 3d printers are printing 3d printers and AI is about to become AGI any minute now..... the pace of change will not be slowing down by the looks of it.

Good times ahead if we can wrap our heads around it and start to come together as plebs and demand open AI systems for the benefit of all.

Bahahaha stop it! If they start making guns out of plastic they will get through airport metal detectors! No way that will work.

Any lefties shot it yet??

Still get a face full of gas/powder?

Yes I get fowling on my cheek. Shot 200 rounds of my gen 3 and the last 50 rounds. It's was getting a bit annoying, but not overly bothersome.

Since then. I put on a Missouri Tactical recoil pad. Which will give me an extra inch, plus I'll put the stock furthest back. Should help. (I had the stock in the shortest original position)

what kind of upgrades does everyone recommond for the gen 3 model?

It really doesn't need anything besides an optic and additional magazines.

A ladder rail cover for the bottom of the forend is nice to have. And if the LOP is too short for your taste (after the max adjustment), a recoil pad will help.

Plastic guns are not going away.... what is changing is manufacturing technology and material science.
Who knows what we will see in 10 years.... but given that 3d printers are pretty much self replicating today, I can see custom one off's being even cheaper down the road.

And maybe a rubber cover for the steel buffer tube.

Have you tried canting the gun so the ejection port is more towards 6 o'clock instead of 3 o'clock?

Canting the gun like that is how some people run offset angled red dot's on the gen2's without the need for the rotating hand guard to allow folding.

A slight cant to the inside makes the stock sights on the gen 2 also easier to use without having to mash your face down on the buffer tube.

Brutal to hear. Would have thought they would design Ed the shell deflector better

I thought they did change the size of the ejection port and extend a bit of a deflector with the new model.

It's never going to be perfect for a lefty, but that doesn't mean it can't be worked around with a bit of technique.

Given it's a semi auto with a bolt handle in a neutral position, a lefty could probably even learn to shoot it right side with a red dot easy enough.

I think you may be misinformed as to the properties of Zytel, Nylon 66 and other gun polymers. I'll simply say that there is a reason that literally all non-obsolete standard issue service arms of today typically have polymer furniture and in some cases receivers (lookin' at you G36). If it's good enough for the Bundeswehr it's good enough for me. The Sub2k is not intended to be driven over by a truck or dragged through the mud in an extended military campaign, it's a lightweight utility firearm that is meant to be oft-carried. It's also literally a tube and spring with sights that fires a pistol cartridge, that really doesn't need to weigh 8 lbs. I personally think of them as a big NR pistol rather than rifle (funny to note, a sub2k with light weighs about the same as a Mk23 OHWS with all the fixins'). As for reliability, once again it is basically a barrel, tube, bolt and spring. I cannot say over the 2 I've owned that I have ever had an issue, and I've shot the s&@% out of them. If any keltec firearm can be said to be reliable, it is the Sub. The predecessor to the sub actually had an aluminum receiver, and they deemed it too heavy/costly to make for the intended use.

Not discounting the other fellow's experience, but I think it's very much a YMMV thing. I'm a lefty and while i had issues with powder/gas in the face on the Gen 1s, the Gen 2 has given me no issues. Might have to simply be a try it and see type of thing.

Does the fore-end twist on the barrel or does the barrel/fore-end twist as a single unit to fold?

The forend rotates separately from the barrel.

Thought I'd chime in as another lefty, owned a gen 1 and liked it enough, other than the gas/getting peppered with powder.

Decided to give the Gen 3 a chance as they said they improved the ejection port and added a shell deflector. I sold it after my first range trip. I'm sure I could play around with different ammo to find something that works best, but I was getting sprayed in the face with unburnt powder, definitely wouldn't want to shoot it without eye pro on.
