Subsonic 22 mag in Canada?

I live in a giant bucket.
I've noticed online that Winchester started selling subsonic (read 1090 fps) 22 magnum ammo in 2017, has anyone seen it or tried it before? Seems like a good idea to make the 22 mag more versatile; subsonic loads for partridge and squirrels in the bush, substantially hotter loads to mess up ground hogs and coyotes.
 
I would just buy a standard .22... the whole point of .22mag would be defeated. honestly I don't even know why .22mag exists as its own caliber.

Agreed. However, the round is almost justified by its use in 'Day of the Jackal' - at least if I'm understanding the cartridge represented here correctly:
Seems a bit odd that the report would be so muffled considering the length of the brass, with the implied powder load several times greater than .22lr. But perhaps the old gunsmith loaded it for subsonic velocity. Of course getting into the technical elements of DotJ firearm specs is a rabbit hole. The mercury tips have been more than thoroughly debunked, owing to the tendency of mercury in a lead jacket to create an amalgam with no expansion capability within minutes of contact, the reaction continuing in some experiments to the point of meltdown somewhat like an ancient alkaline battery found in an old flashlight. Hardly an assassin-worthy cartridge. He'd have been better served by studying French military customs, learning about the cheek kissing thing. And of course in hindsight, considering the cursory inspections along the way, a backup pistol would have been a good idea.

But yeah, subsonic .22lr seems to be such a well developed cartridge that for small game such as mentioned above one really needn't look any further. Except maybe into air rifles, which can do the job very nicely.
 
I downloaded a 223 to 1065fps. I couldnt reach 22mag velocities with trailboss. 55gr bullets topped out at 1650fps

The thing with subsonic loads for hunting is any game nearby is still going to hear it. Might as well have the full crack and let the echo confuse them of the point of origin
 
The gun in Day of the Jackal is suppressed. The suppressor is just very slender due to the Jackal's need to disguise it.

I'm impressed at the detail put into what I think is a prop. I think the locking lug turning when the bolt is closed is more detailed than even the book depicts
