I use CCI Quiets in some of my .22 rifles. In my 13" barreled Norinco JW15A it chonies at 711 fps and my 16" barrelled Chiappa Little Badger it chronies at 600 fps. The box says 710 fps. Obviously muzzle velocity is affected by barrel length, type of barrel etc.

I would like to find a standard velocity round that is still subsonic but is a little hotter since the speed of sound allows for ammo to be under 1100 fps. I want that extra 300-400 fps.

Anyone have any ammo that they have chronied that meets what I'm looking for? Please share muzzle velocity from a chronograph and the barrel length and any comments on noise level.

If anyone wants to know why I want this information: I usually bring a .22 when I'm hunting bigger game. I prefer to have a .22 that is as quiet as possible (no supersonic crack).
 
Usually "standard" velocity ammo is 1070-1080 fps out of a 20" or so barrel. There is a whole pile of target ammo that fits this description. I don't know of any hollowpoints under 1100, but I'm sure they exist and someone will come along and tell you.

The CCI quiet is definitely still more quiet, but they don't have that crack that comes with supersonic ammo.
 
The CCI subsonic at 1080 doesn't have the subsonic crack, although it does sometimes it seems, depends on the rifle I suppose. I like it myself since it is a bit more quiet than the other CCI rounds they make that are faster, and louder.

Using a Shooting Chrony placed 2 ft away from the muzzle for data out of my CZ 457 with a 16" barrel, average velocity:

CCI Quiets 768 fps
CCI SV 1075 fps
Eley Edge 1122 fps
Eley Club 1098 fps
Eley Match 1118 fps
Eley Tenex 1113 fps
SK Pistol Match 1032 fps (Very accurate out of my rifle)

FWIW I am going through something similar searching for quiet 22 ammo for accurately shooting grouse/rabbits in the fall when also deer hunting.

Have not run it through the radar yet but I have been trying out Eley subsonic hollow.

Published data is 1000-1040fps

For me the CCI quiets had too large of a grouping to be satisfactory to my needs (in a CZ 455).

Eley and SK on the other hand are quite a bit more accurate. I use SK and Lapua in my Tikka for long range target shooting but the Eley hollow points should work well for hunting with the CZ.

There are dies out there that will install a hollow point on any 22 LR bullet. Gonna cost ya, though, if you are not able to make your own.
Dunno why the worries about the extra speed. At any range I have ever encountered grouse or rabbits out there, quiets work fine. Have played with them shooting over high visibility surfaces so the splash was visible, and out to 100 yards can be done with some Kentucky windage and holdover.

If you’re talking about CCi quiets (740) I’ve found them to be untrustworthy over 25 yards. Seen them loop to the target
 
The OP is using short barreled rifles. They are louder than longer barreled .22LR firearms. For an increase in MV and ME over the "Quiet" ammo currently used, try some CCI SV ammo. It's standard velocity (1070 fps printed on the box), widely available, and it's not expensive. Some rounds may be over 1100 fps, but consistent MV's can't be expected with inexpensive ammo and it would seem obvious that the OP doesn't want to spend more to buy match ammo with a more reliably consistent MV.
 
Pity we aren't allowed suppressors. Subsonic out of a suppressed .22 you hear the striker, a small pop from the shot, and a "thwap" from the bullet hitting the (gopher, bunny, possom (in NZ back in the day))... Winchester Australia makes a great subsonic hollow point. Probably can't get it here.
 
I use the Eley Subsonic hunting rounds when I wish to save my ears a bit. Great ammo out of rifles and pistols, but premium priced. I do not have a chrono unfortunately.
 
CCI makes a subsonic hollow point as well as the solid SV. It runs a bit slower than SV as well, advertised as 1050 vs 1080 fps. I can't remember if the subsonic hollow points are 38 or 40 grain though. I've also had Remington subsonic hollow points too, they weren't as accurate as the CCI in my gun though.

They won't shoot worth a crap unless you have a quicker twist barrel than standard. They usually tumble and group terribly.

Yeah, CCI Quiets.

Gonna say it's your gun, not the ammo. Used the stuff at various times in a half dozen 22's, and not had your troubles.
