Subsonic 7.62x39 for SKS

I have some subsonic x39, from everything I've seen online I don't think it will cycle an Sks, I bought it for a Bolty though, I could try it in an Sks to see but I highly doubt it will cycle

180 grain Speer #2223 SPRN over 15 grains of IMR 4198 sparked by CCI 250.
About 25-30 FPS below Mach at 16C, with reliable cycling of a 1950 Tula throughout.
H4895 wasn't as good. CFE-BLK sucked.

That makes sense. Faster powders like 4198 theoretically should work better than slower powders for this purpose.

I load mine with cast bullets Lee 180gr .312. With H335 around 16.0gr, it cycle and I get 1075fps. It don't eject very far.
Use it at your risk, it don't come from a data book.

Interesting. The very first load I tried was IMR4198 and it functioned perfectly at around 1030 fps. Of the 5 or so different powders I have tried thus far, IMR4198 seems to be the best.

I am a bit surprised that such light bullets will produce enough gas pressure to cycle an SKS. So far I have been using 245 and 255gr bullets. The SubX is an interesting bullet but kinda spendy. I was looking at Prairie Projectiles and the heaviest .312" bullet he offers is a 215gr RN. The only question will be, where the driving bands are located, so the bullet can be seated deep enough to fit in the SKS mag.

CFE-BLK sucked.
LOL, I was considering trying CFE-BLK but figured I already had at least 6 powders that could potentially work. So far I have found at least 4 different powders that work, but two have stood out as way better than the others. I want to do one last round of testing and then I'll post up my results.
