I was wondering if anyone uses subsonic 9mm. I see it in the states but not up here. I shoot 22 subsonic and really enjoy it . I am able to shoot on my own land so a quieter 9mm for my carbines would be nice. Am I out to lunch on this?

Speed of sound is 1125fps

9m is typically right around that.
If you back off when someone is shooting a 9 it's actually pretty quiet.

It would be neat to try out of a carbine altho subsonic listed ammo may not be traveling at subsonic speeds when shot out of a rifle length barrel. And cycling the action might be problematic.

Try some 147s. They go slower
This.

There are companies that advertise higher priced ammo marketed as subsonic but it's just normal pressure 147gr. I've never seen supersonic 147gr that's normal pressure. It's usually 850-950fps which is quite below the speed of sound.

I can tell you though that out of a pistol I can't tell the difference between 1200fps 124gr and 950fps 147gr from the sound. Without a suppressor the muzzle blast makes them sound mostly the same.

It's only subjective at this point, but I've noticed flattened ogive 147s to be quieter than truncated cones.
It seems that the sharp transition from the conical section to the cylindrical is enough to locally accelerate the airflow and generate a slight but noticeable shock wave.
The smooth curving transition of the ogive appears to prevent that "snap".
It may not be an issue from a pistol with its lower muzzle velocity, but that's what I experienced with my longer barreled PCC.

I run guns has a couple of different brands of 9mm subsonic . In a un surpressed fire arm the sound difference is all most un noticeable . I was kinda hopeful that there would be more of a difference ( like 22 subsonics ) maybe with a sound measure ? I have only tryed the 147 grains .

FOC low recoil is subsonic. In functions in all my pistols, carbines and ARs.
It becomes noticeably quieter as barrel length increases. In a JR Carbine its not much louder than a .22 rifle..
