Substituting steel shot with TSS shot? Pressure up? Or down?

3macs1, I believe we all heard you ... loud and clearly ... no need to sound like a broken record.

However, I am a bit disappointed ... I thought you are a man of your word. :-(

Sorry to say .... but people who can't keep their word get ignored around here .... and are not taken seriously!

If all other components and variables remain the same, and the weight of the payload remains the same… then speed, pressure, noise, and energy are all going to stay the same. The only foreseeable difference I can imagine is that there would be twice as much space in the shot cup, which could mean less lateral forces during acceleration and less constriction while moving through a choke, which would mean slightly lower pressure If anything.

Thanks kodiakjack, and that is exactly what people down south have observed when making such a substitution and pressure testing that load. Pressure slightly decreases and velocity goes down a bit. As you mentioned, it seems it has to do with shot column height and lateral friction forces ....

I think I will follow denydart's thinking ... and load a couple of shells with lead shot and see how that goes and how loud or quiet they are. And order some TSS shot in the meantime. Hey, there must be a way to get "ball bearings" across the border .... right?
 
Well - Going at it with lead to start is a smart move. Based upon my experience with commercial subsonic lead loads, you are not going to notice a tremendous reduction in noise or recoil, compared to typical promo loads. Getting a longer barrel may benefit you more in this regard, and possibly improve your wingshooting.
