On Gun Nutz this morning. Heard a hell of a crash. Wife yelled, "I think someone shot out our window." Went to see. Dead grouse on ground, 20" X 52" side panel on south picture window smashed. Fortunately only the outer glass, so no wind blowing in, but nitrogen filled so panel has to be replaced. Expensive way to get a grouse. This is the third grouse that has committed suicide on that window, but the first to break it.

I answered some PM's this fall while in a treestand for deer. . . My how things have changed... we used to use goose calls in code to communicate while deer hunting...

My buddy who is a non-hunter keeps bugging me that he got two birds without a license and I only got one grouse this year. It turns out his new house is situated near a quail hangout and the recent windstorms keep throwing quail up against his house. He's found two already. He won't eat them!

If you want to stop birds from crashing into your windows run a few strands of thin black string like sewing thread across the inside of the window frame top to bottom every foot or so, you can even crisscross them if you like, whichever pattern you like the looks of. The birds see the strands and prefer not to fly through them. I saw this at a friends place years back and he said it had cut his bird crashes down by about 95%. He even had a silhouette in one corner of a small falcon type bird, some kind of songbird eating bird. From outside it looked to the songbirds like the enemy was perched waiting, lol.
