Hey there guys.

Just starting to reload for my new Norc M14S with an 18 1/2" barrel, courtesy of Valley Guns.

I have searched the net for the last few days looking for some good recipes, and my books haven't come in yet. Just wondering if any of you fine gentlemen and perhaps women have a few that I can use as a reference. Target and hunting loads are welcome.

Just for reference I am using RCBS .308 Win small base dies. I have a supply of Federal #210M large rifle match primers, and 150gr Hornady SST Interlock bullets.

Any and all input will be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I load for my 18.5'' M14S

-Hornady 150gr Interlocks
-43gr H-4895
-CCI 200 Primers
-Winchester Brass

The loads a little slow at 2595 FPS but works well in the gun and doesn't sling brass all over the place, plus I only use it on paper and steel.

Regarding the Fed 210M primers.......Federal primers are softer then the norm and may lead to a "slamfire".:eek:

The recomended primer for the M14/M1 Garand is the CCI #34 military primer.These primers are designed for semi-auto rifles and have a harder cup to prevent "slamfires".

Use any of the following powders:

-WW-748
-H-BLC2
-IMR 4895
-IMR 4064
-Reloader 15

These are all mil-spec powders and have been used in Military ammunition over the years.

Try these loads. All are USGI match loads used by the US military in their match loadings through the years.

168 Sierra HPBT Match bullet
41.5 grains IMR 4895
CCI primer
Military brass

Same bullet
43.0 748
CCI primer
Military brass

I just substitute 150 or 155 grain bullets for my use. You can increase the powder charge a bit if you use commercial brass.

I would have caught on while I was typing it, but for once my mind was out of the gutter.

I don't think so.
I just read that it sizes the brass a tad smaller so it makes chambering in a semi-auto a little easier. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is the first time I am loading rifle ammo.
 
I use small base, but I'm not sure at all I have to.
Go to Mysticplayer's site, he has some good info there.
I discovered that my gas system is a little loose, so I stopped the work on the M14 until I shim it....
On the other hand, if you find something that works good, post it...

Would that be 43gr of H4895?

A good, accurate load in my M14S is:

168gr Hornady HPBT (or 168gr Sierra MK)
43gr Varget
WLR primer
Winchester Cases

Yes, my mistake sometimes my fingers are faster than my brain. Fixed.

I don't use small base dies and haven't had any issues so far. I do make sure I full length size the cases for the M14 though.
 
I've tried 42 grains or H335 coupled with CCI #200 primers with good success. I stopped using that powder because it was a tad dirty. Now I'm using 42.5 grains of H4895, same primer with great success.

Do you have a factory length barrel, if so what velocity are you getting with that load? Just curious to see how it compares to mine with the 18.5" barrel.
