Sucker for a pimped out Glock...

If you're discussing ergonomics then you clearly haven't a clue what you're doing with a pistol. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you've had zero professional training as well. The "fit" of a handgun is pure bullsh*t. No doubt some guns "feel" better in the hand, but making your decision based on two minutes of dry(non firing) handling of a gun at the store is beyond stupid. Even if you fired a box or two before deciding, if you have no training to back up your decision then you're simply making a choice based on aesthetics, peer pressure, popular appeal, and "fit and feel". Rarely does anyone ever select a firearm based on an intended purpose. The most common criteria people look for is calibre and/or magazine capacity. These two criteria cover most of the hunting and competition crowd as they feel only calibre matters for the hunters (and some competitors) and capacity for the competitors. Operating system(DA/SA SA, Safe DA, DAO) is almost never considered because most new to the activity haven't bothered to research such differences. Looking cool or replicating some crap seen on the big screen is priority one, sometimes the only priority.

Your claim that a 1911 is more accurate than a Glock is based on zero evidence. A short light single action trigger in a large heavy gun does lend itself well to more consistent shooting, and does a good job at covering up user error. In that regard it can be shot to a greater level of accuracy/consistency by lesser experienced shooters. As for recoil, the Glock has the lower bore axis which translates into less muzzle rise during recoil. This is scientific fact not speculation. Is a 1911 or any other auto overly difficult to control? No, but any advantage is still an advantage.

The PX4 is a gigantic piece of sh*t. They aren't overly reliable, the slide mounted safety is dumb, outdated, and not necessary nor is the exposed hammer. DA/SA is far from easy to learn and the DA is absolutely horrendous in both length of pull and weight.

If this is the case then you got yourself a deal..

Like women, variety in firearms is the sign of someone who doesn't know what they want and is incapable of settling on/with one and making it work. If you have just one(of either item above) you tend to be very familiar with it and grow to trust it.

Read above on "fit" and your lack of performance with the Glocks you tried was entirely because of you the operator, not the design. Seek professional training.

LOOOOLLLLLLLLL, TOO FUNNY...... and yes, I paid my 1911 $750 + tx

for that kind of comments ? yes .....

opinions here that we are sharing, it was an impartial resume of my experience on Glock - Beretta - 1911 ......

well some are not so impartial in there opinions ..... that where I laugh .... he can go focus on his Glock, I don't care .....(I'm not bull:bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:ting about Glock at all and neither at Glock people, like I said, one day I will have one, probably a G17),,,,,

for some guy info (TDC), Beretta not reliable lllllloooolllll

go see this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZzJ-gT2jR0

I'm sorry where was the torture portion? He bathed the gun and it ran, thanks for coming out. You do know that even CBSA is ditching the PX4 and they run them in likely the most sterile range type environment possible. Rotating barrel lockup is a poor design. Here's another gem for you. With Beretta being one of if not the oldest/longest running firearms manufacturer. Why do they not have the lions share of the market for MIL and LE? Oh wait, its because their products are lacking in innovation and quality despite the fact that the PX series is a blatant attempt at the polymer market.

As for your R1 price. I don't "make" research, I search for researched information then post it if its relevant. For an R1 you paid a fair price. Comparing that price to a stock Glock, you over paid. That was my point. Glocks all day for $700 and less, and they sport 10 round magazines even in this country. Weigh nearly half as much as an empty 1911(and that's loaded). No dummy controls like grip safeties or thumb safeties, and nearly half as many parts to make them run. Unfortunately, you can't spend countless hours changing grips, triggers, safeties, or magwells on a Glock. Nor can you spend countless hours custom fitting sh*t or shipping it to and from your favorite smith to "improve" your already "perfect combat handgun". What you can do with your Glock(and the money saved in buying one) is purchase a dozen magazines, a couple cases of ammo and shoot the sh*t out of it. If you're so inclined you can put it away sans cleaning and not worry about it. Personally, I use one pistol case and literally toss/drop all my Glocks in the box and throw it in the trunk. I love Glocks, but I still understand that they're tools not mantle pieces, nor are they a past time. I shoot to improve my performance, not tinker with sh*t that doesn't run out of the box. I'll leave such ignorant designs to the dabblers..

the Salients are nice but for that kind of money you can get a Custom built S_I

As for glocks accuracy, i don't see any smiths guarante 50 yrd accuracy on glocks like they do on 1911's. Most people will never be able to shoot their gun to the edge of its accuracy envelope so its kind of a moot point.

All that extra money you pay for a Salient doens't make it shoot a tighter group. What you get is looks and a better trigger that will help you achieve the guns potential easier. I got to play with one and its a nice gun, but there are far better options out there in that price range

I stopped caring when you said TDC's talk is like a newbie...

I stopped after he said 1911. I usually do...lol

TDC won't win over many hearts here, but he speaks the truth.
Despite never meeting him in person, it's obvious to me that he can back up what he says.

While others harp on about a 100 year old design being the smarter buy today, he talks about operating a pistol at maximum efficiency.
It starts with the shooter, and under stress, you'll gladly take any design advantage that you can.

Sorry if I'm not in the right thread, I thought we were talking about $3000 pimped out Glocks...you know, the kind of guns that one would spend countless hours custom fitting sh1t on to!? Anyhow, Personally I can shoot my 1911 .45 far more accurately than my G17, but I believe that is more to do with the caliber characteristics than the platform. I'm thinking about a .45 Glock model (? 21,22?) but since I can't hit the broad side with my 9, I think it best to test drive one first. Before anyone asks, I'm not thinking about a pimped out one. I would rather put $3000 into a custom 1911 than a compensated, gold anodized "star wars" pistol.

We're also talking about never doing any of that to a glock.
They're perfectly accurate and reliable from the factory.

It's your choice if you want to listen or not, but accuracy has nothing to do with calibre, and everything to do with trigger control.

Thank you metcalfe, you save me some time posting the same.

You asked for pimped out!?

Come on TDC - admit it, you feel better now that you've been set straight Laugh2

The Beretta is a terrific gun - that nobody but CBSC uses

You know I did sleep well last night. Perhaps that is the reason. No wait. I was just tired.

I feel sorry for that gold disaster above. What a waste of a good gun.

TDC, Where did you hear that the CBSA is getting rid of the PX4? It was a really stupid choice in the first place but I'm pretty sure that they have a long term contact with Beretta. I shudder to think what they will replace it with as their first contract ruled out Glock's and Sig's right off the bat.
