Hey, i'm new to the rifle seen, more of a shotgun kind of person myself. But recently got interests in inquiring in a rifle for some big game hunting. Anyone have handy sugestions?

Thanks, Getrown

you will hafta supply more info. Big Game = Deer? Elk? Moose? Terrain? Supply as much info as possible and the suggestions will roll in.

Savage (not an axis) in whatever caliber you like, 243win or bigger will fill your tags if your a good shot but the bigger you go the more it will hurt your shoulder and pockets when buying ammo. Bigger more powerful rounds will make shot placement less of an issue but you still need to be able to hit the vital organs or you will be chasing a wounded animal and have to live with yourself for making an animal suffer a slow agonizing death. So no matter what caliber you choose get out and practice as much as you can. I would suggest a 308win or 30-06, ammo is cheap, easy to find, plenty of power for anything in Canada, and easy to reload for.
Also buy the most expensive scope you can afford, there is a difference and you will notice it.

Good luck

Whats the budget? with iron sights are you scoping it? Bolt Action, Semi-auto or pump? Wood or synthetic? Stainless or Blued?

You can't go wrong with Winchester m70, Remington 700, Browning, Ruger, Tikka, Savage. I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple.

As far as Caliber, I assume you don't reload so a commonly available cartridge would be ideal. 270, 308, 30/06, 300wm. Those cartridges will take care of most North America big game out to 300y+.

If your price range is around the $1000 mark I would highly recommend the Winchester M70 Extreme Weather. IMHO it's one of the best price vs quality guns out there. Stainless steel, Bell and Carlson stock and Control round feed

Winchester M70 would be my first choice. Even brand new models are still really nicely built. Many other newly manufactured ones are lacking in the quality and fnish department...

I plan on getting one in .308 ~ Will do all i ever need it to do.

My suggestions:

Remington 700 in .308 Win
Remington 770 in 7mm Rem Mag
Browning BAR Longtac in .30-06
Sako TRG-42 in .338 Lapua

Mostly good advice, but going bigger doesn't always hurt the pocket book more. I can get 7mm rem mag ammo for cheaper than .270 winchester ammo around here.

holy smokes, a lot of suggestions with out the usual demand for precise info. Hope you got what you needed OP. Go quality, not cheap s-h-I-t-e, buy it once, not twice!

Find something you like and report back to us. Too many good rifles out there to make specific recommendations. If you tell us what tickles your fancy after seeing and handling it, we can at least point out its weaknesses, and perhaps offer some similar rivals to consider.

hard to beat a 700 CDL SF in 300wsm ... great all around gun and cartridge. If you ever want to ungrade it the options are endless. They shoot great with the $20 a box blue federal 165 or 8's what ever they are
