Hey Guys,

So I have come to terms with the fact that I am no longer in western SK, I do not have huge expanses of prairie to shoot gophers across anymore. I am in eastern manitoba, we have forest, and squirrels.

So it is time for me to give up my large scopes in favour of something lightweight, with good light transmission. It will be going on a less than ideal candidate, being a Savage 93r17gv, but it's what I've got.

I'm thinking something in 3-9x, mostly so that it doesn't look out of place on a varmint rifle, but I'm open to other suggestions, budget is <$200. Current weight of my smaller scope for it is 18oz, so I'd like something considerably lighter than that.

I look forward to your suggestions!

Why do you not like your 93r17 op? I love mine, although I barely ever shoot it haha. I did have to try 6 or 7 different types of ammo before I finally found what works for mine (federal perimium 17 gr) all other ammo gives me terrible groups. The federal can be bought in bulk at cabelas in the metal ammo cans. $117 for 500 rounds if I'm remembering correct. On a side not I hear a lot of savages like the 20gr bullets better, just not mine.

I'm using the cabelas rimfire scope withe the 17hmr turret on it, 4-16x40 I think it is. It's cheap but it's been holding zero, I can't complain. Also, the turret increments seem to be accurate.

Not sure at that price range, but suggest a higher power than 3-9. Not sure how far you plan on shooting though. I turn mine up to 16x lots for gophers. Even 100 yards on a logging road, high power is nice for head shots. Maybe a 4-12 would suffice.

Too add to my last post I just checked, my scope is the cabelas pine ridge .17 tactical 6-18x40. $159.99 at cabelas right now.

Ya there's better but for the price I recommend it

if you could up your budget a tad, I'd look for a 4-12x40 Elite 3200 with AO. Other options in your price range would be a Legend in the same power range or even a 5-15x40. I have all of these scopes on various rimfires and enjoy them all.
