Suggest an Accurate Sniper

Ya, old men get squirly when you say sniper. Sniper implies that you might shoot something other then paper.

But "Sniper, Snipe on" We all know what your talking about, some people just need to feel important on the internet by picking apart wording.

Check out many of the retailers above. I think personally the line for me is how robust the system is. As well as if it has been designed to shoot in the field, on angles, ect. If it looks like an ugly F-Class, benchrest "Lamborgini" of a rifle, then avoid it. Stick to basic rifles with a MOA guarantee. (Rem, Tikka, Perhaps Savage (no experience with them)

Guys are right in that the rifle does not make the shooter a sniper, but a MOA rifle, a good bipod, a homemade sock filled with beans (rear sandbag) Good Glass with a reticule you can measure with (mil dot, Mrad, Mil lines) and your good to start. Then get a computer program called "Shooter Ready" its super basic but teaches you how to make calculations and use mildot. (i found it free online) Then practice .

p.s. Forget all the haters, I think its a sniper rifle ;)

Calling a rifle a sniper rifle is no different then calling ano AR15 an assault weapon. The antis like to use these terms to instill fear, we as firearms owners should do better and stop using those words ourselves if we ever expect to change things.

Rob Furlong (Canadian)

Vasily Zaytsev (Russian)

Lyudmila Pavlichenko (Russian)

Corporal Francis Pegahmagabow (Canadian)

Carlos Norman Hathcock II (American)

Simo Häyhä (Finnish)

There is just a few Snipers that have caught my eye over the years. ;) Now unless you were looking for an accurate precision rifle that a sniper might use? :p

Then yes a savage would be a good place to start looking, in .308.

I hate this attitude, allowing the fear of so called "antis" dominate our favorite hobby, who gives a #### what they say? I say weapon and will continue to do so. Also I hope all u wishy washy liberal pander-ers realize that your politically correct term for guns and rifles means weapon, fire-ARM. We all need to grow up and stop limiting ourselves in what we can do an embrace the attitude that if it came down to it you could and will use a weapon to defend yourself or loved ones.

Its called using correct terminology. There is no such thing as a sniper rifle unless a sniper is using it. An AR is a semi auto, nothing more. Unless its being used by professionals leading ano assault and has full auto capabilities. You sir are part of the problem but keep your atitiude im sure it will do wonders for the firearms commuinity.

Think about it the next time wendy calls the mini 14 an assault weapon. Or some liberal media calls some hunters gun a sniper rifle.

Pretty sure the Mossberg Maverick suggestion is a joke. It was recently used in a multiple shooting in BC. The papers initially described it as a Sniper rifle. I might be wrong however.

anything "high powered" with a scope is a "sniper rifle"

just like anything semi auto is an "assault rifle"

All you'll ever need...

Please for the love of god don't buy anything mossberg for precision rifles lol.

I would get a Remington SPS Tactical or a Savage 10 FCP-K, If you got a buddy at Savage then go through them, but I think the Lakefield factory only makes rimfires.

Ok, I remember a raid in Winnipeg many years ago after a buch of registered guns hit the street, they dug an AI AW out out of this guys place, and called it a Sniper Rifle... and you know what? it was, and still is. Its the British Army's Sniper rifle, not for putting holes in paper.

There is such thing as an assault rifle, and we own them, there is such thing as a sniper rifles, and we own them. Thats what the are, embrace it. Its the intentional deceit that the general public can see that tarnishes our image.

When we show a decked out AR or a CZ and say, "oh no no no, that has no offensive application, its strictly for paper."

Blow it out your ..... When its issued to your army and the czech army or the US army, and every instructor ever tells the soldiers to not use auto, and we can make clones, and shoot the same style, ITS AN ASSAULT RIFLE! And thats what makes it cool,

AR is semi, nothing more?? the fact is you are lying to the public, stop it man, stop lying to the public. Those were not designed as sporting rifles, they were designed to pin down and then shoot holes in human beings. And stop supporting the myth that Auto = Scary. You see you are attempting to carefully create an image for the public instead of just telling the truth. Face facts

As for precision rifle, go look at what guys in the forum and building and shooting, then look at the manufacturers advertising, all you will see is glory shots of LEO and Mil setting up for and making mission critical shots to save Blue lives. F* YEAH These companies are selling us sniper rifles for shooting people, we just happen to be shooting deer and paper.

And you know what, I will call a spade a spade here. If you are running around on crown land with a digi cam 700, going prone and calc-ing 900m shots and you ARE NOT training for "end of rule of law", then your kind of a loser, no one on this board needs a friken Timberwolf, or a TRG, I dont see ERT members or Mil snipers on here showing what they are using at work, its a bunch of regular dudes who want to move up from playing MW3 but wont actually join up. AND THAT IS 100% COOL AS LONG AS WE ARE HONEST ABOUT IT! Just be honest man

You want correct terminology? I want truth in firearms ownership.

So go yell at them, they are give us a bad name

In my first post I mentioned some names,

If you have med/deep pockets look up ShooterPHD on here, he does nice stuff with Rem. 700's.

As well someone else mentioned it, the Savage Model 10, good entry price and I have shot MOA with a friends 300wm version with a Vortex optic.

http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/finder/

And I have used Leopold/Bushnell Elite/Schmit and Vortex. for the price I would say give the Vortex a shot.

Once again this thread goes off topic. The sniper argument is so boring to listen to all the time. He said he's new guys, get off his back.

OP, the suggestion earlier for getting the savae model 10 is a great idea. .223 or .308 is the best bet. Pick what you want. But the rifle shoots great for a out of the box rifle. I had one and sold it only for the fact I was getting a similar one. Whatever you choose just remember to enjoy it!! :)

An ignore the chest pokers in here. Alot of peoples opinions On the sniper rifle topic is very strong.

I'm glad someone got it. :D

Op, look at Remington SPS series or Savages line up including the Stevens. I would suggest .223 (affordable, easy to shoot, excellent ballistics) mount a $4-$500 scope on it and away you go. Start at 100 yards ang go as far as you can.
Enjoy it and don't overthink or overcomplicate it. Just shoot and have fun. If you're in lowermainland BC, pm me and I'll see if I can help you out.
